hey yah i was wondering if i am able to do a body swap as in old g2 frame which is rusted and damages and transfer everything as in dash vin, license plate, engine,ETC. to a better g2 shell i found(didnt buy yet) but im wondering if it will be illegal(but if yah know how and where all the vin is please tell me) maybe i can tranfer it to the newer shell or is there any other legit way into body swap without having to go to the mva or dmv and register the shell because my car is in another state and the shell is in another state but i am here right now with the shell sooooo BODY SWITCH??? thank you please reply ASAP as i am waiting on a response
if yah need more infomation on what im talking about just tell me
You can transfer anything you want, but if you transfer tags you might want to register the car through DMV. If you get pulled over, the VIN from the tags wont match the VIN of the car. I dont think you will have trouble with engine, dash, blah blah blah and whatnots. Also, I wouldnt recommend transferring VIN’s, you might be asking for trouble, but thats just my 2 cents.
Oh, and you might want to use sentences next time. Not trying to sound like a dick, but i’m sure the grammar police will be here any minute.
i’ve heard people do “vin swaps” or what your calling it “body swaps” to RHD cars so they dont have to register the car…if the plates match all the VINs on the car i dont think you see any problems with it…just have to go to the registeration place and change the color of the car on the title…
1.I know about the tags and vin but i am willing to take any vin off the old g2 and and cut/paste/weld on the new 1 so the papers and junk is still legit i can do that if that possible also yea i know ima take the dash out of the old 1 so it be ok?
2.body swap just to a better shape g2 as the old 1 has really bad frame damages and VERY bad rust almost everything underneath. Not no RHD
3.cut/paste/weld old firewall vin to new frame but i don’t think that legal
Also do any 1 know where all the vin are located on the car? so i can search for them that if i can do that?
i don’t see why you feel the need to try and transfer over the VIN as well as all your other stuff. Do it the right way. swap everything over, and get the car inspected to make sure that it would be road legal. It’s really not that hard to register the “new” car and use your old one for parts then eventually scrap it.
In short, don’t be dumb. Do it right so that you don’t fuck yourself over in the end.
whatever you do, do NOT TOUCH the VIN! My friend did once and a State Trooper told him that can carry a two year prison sentence if you mess with it. You have to take it to the Salvage Inspection and they will swap VINs over for you…not sure about the firewall though, that would be difficult,
Take it from me personally. DO NOT TOUCH ANY VIN on either car.
I have(had) a custom built trans. 99 si case, b16 123,gsr 45, Type R final, and type r lsd. I polished the case and accidentally hit the vin. although it didnt completly wipe the number out, it made it very difficult to read. When the police did a routine check and saw the damaged VIN they took my car, and charged me with a class 5 felony. Carries a posible 2 year jail sentence, and likely alot of fines.
My co worker did a DC dash into an EG hatch and put the vin of the EG on to the new dash. ALSO AGAINST THE LAW. Same situation.
MVD is the only federal authority allowed to remove and replace VIN’s.
Our purpose built race car had NO VIN’s due to the cage work and air box for ITB’s. But because it originally had VIN’s, again same situation.
Luckily we got 2 out of 3 cars back. TheRace car is still pending.
But if I can teach anyone anything: DO NOT TOUCH ANY VIN!!!
