bogging/stalling when starting from a standstill

Recently my 92 GS manual has been bogging and even stalling when starting from a stop. Unless I rev to ~2000rpm before letting the clutch out, often it will die on me; even if I give it a ton of gas before it fully stalls. Lately the oil pan light and check engine light blink as its dying. Furthermore, it won’t restart for a full 10+ seconds sometimes- and after it does, things proceed like nothing is wrong at all. I have no problems whatsoever when the car is already moving and cruising. Lately this has been getting much worse and is to the point where I can’t drive in traffic anymore. Any thoughts?

did u check what code its giving you???..maybe your clutch is staying engaged

I had the bogging from a light happen to me. Mine was my 02 sensor on the exhaust manifold. If you have never replaced it, or don’t know when it was, this could be the problem…maybe. Pull it out and see if it looks toasted or not. Like I said…cases not always typical.

Could also be a clogged fuel filter… typically they are the worst when at an idle. When under a load they typically don’t exhibit any symptoms of being clogged.

Could be a cheap fix if that’s indeed the problem.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was lazy/cheap the past few months and let the tank get to the low fuel light before refilling- my money is on a clogged fuel filter. I’m going to replace that first; any more thoughts are appreciated.

I replaced the fuel filter, but haven’t been able to run the car and see if that fixes my problem because now it won’t start. It begins to crank and then slips every other second or so. I’m sure this is from my frustrated attempts at re-starting it when stalling in the middle of a major intersection. It sounds like the teeth are slipping- either the starter teeth are worn down or the flywheel teeth are grinded down. Judging by the fact that I was probably trying to start the car while it was still rotating (even though it wasn’t registered on the tach), I’m guessing that its the starters teeth which are worn down. Anyone with experience with this issue to confirm? Either way I’ll probably pull it tomorrow and take a look.

i had a similar problem once. intake cam jumped a tooth. timing was off and had zero low end acceleration. maybe brake booster sticking? just my thoughts. good luck with it

I’m scared that I fucked up the flywheel teeth when trying to get her started in the recent past. Will know soon
