I picked up a hood from the junkyard that has about 15-20 hail dings. I’m new to the bondo world and I was wondering if I could just bondo over the hail damage or if I should have the dents popped out.
It’s going to look better if you have the dents popped out. Too many people use bondo to fix big things bondo was originally designed for a small filler on places so you can get the nice look you want. You can do it but I would recommend getting them popped
bondo shouldn’t be applied in areas where you would end up with more than an 1/8" thick coating, maybe 1/4". more than this and the bondo may crack over time. ruining whatever paint job you spent hundreds or thousands on. as the previous poster said, have the dents removed as much as possible before the bondo is applied and then use the bondo in small amounts to smooth the surface.
it all depends how big the dents are. If there small u can bondo over it no problem, just make sure the bondo can adhere to it(to be sanded with 180Grit of courser). like he said theres about 15-20 dings theres, thats alot of hammering on dollying For something as small as dings to be popped out. Simply just a big waste of time, just ask any bodyman.
yea they are just tiny no deeper than 1/4 in and no bigger than a dime… im afraid if i pop them out it will cost the same as a new hood. i dont want to try to pop the out myself because if i push them to far it will be an inside out dent.
1/4 in and no bigger than a dime, I’d say go for it. just make sure you prep the surface good.
if you pop the dents out to much all you have to do is hammer then down again. and if your gonna use bondo for them make sure you grind the paint down before putting the bondo on
wouldnt it beeen alot cheaper for u to buy a jobber hood for like $150, there pretty decent fit, no damage and all u really have to do is scuff and paint those things
well i got this hood for 30 so i cant really complain
just bondo it and call it a day. no need to try to pop minor dings out. Just bondo, sand, and primer, and sand with 320.
