my girls 91 rs has the same problem see had tacken it to the Acura shop they said it was the water pump and it would be $600 to fix how hard is it to change the water pump and could that realy be the problem sounds kinda funny to me any input on this would be good thanks
I had similar problems with the idle and found that someone before me had adjusted the idle by adjusting the throttle linkage, opening the throttle valve. I think this confuses the computer because you are sending a false TPS reading to the computer. Once I closed the throttle valve completely, and cleaned the IACV, I was able to adjust the idle speed properly and the wandering stopped.
Re: Bouncing Idle
Bounces from bad throttle position sensor, or incorrectly adjusted throttle position sensor.

Before I get the little search smiley, I ahve done a search, and as a result, have some info.
My warm idle is bouncing from about 750 to 1500 rpm. This seems to be a common problem but with many many solutions. So far, I have done all of the simple things: my coolant is fine, my brake pressure is fine, my voltage regulator is working properly. I only have one O2 sensor running from my header, but it doesn’t throw codes, and splicing it did not solve this problem (and made the engine seem to run a little worse). Today I took apart my fast idle valve, but that is also working correctly.
One thing that may be curious is that when I pull off the 3P connector to the TPS, the idle goes up to 2K and stays there. I don’t know if this is a normal result. If not, I would think this indicates that my problem is electrical, rather than a problem with vacuum like I thought.
Any thoughts on this? And what effects can I expect from running with the TPS disconnected, other than getting the high idle and check engine light? I am happier with the 2K constant idle than the bouncing one (I sit in traffic a lot unfortunately), but I want to make sure I’m not f-ing anything up in the meantime.

A messed up TPS is one of the 10000 causes of that problem. Many other causes are MUCH more common.

You should list a cause instead of negating another. I have had that prob before, and it was a burned out TPS sensor. Im not suggesting to buy a new one, just take a portable DMM and check to make sure that there are no dead spots on the TPS.

You acted like the TPS is the only cause.

When he disconnects the TPS and the problem is solved, the cause is the tps.

Yes, the sensors will work fine on your b16 manifold as long as they connect to your wiring harness alright.

My car just started bouncing between 1100-1500. What is a IACV?? Never mind I found it here http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=42969
ok so where in the world do they sell the IACV at? i can’t find this thing anywhere, this idle jumping is really driving me crazy. not to mention i can’t set the timing on my car cause the idle is always jumping and i really need to set my timing soon(just finished engine rebuild).
IACV is 220$ from the dealer

Did you try fixing the white thing inside it?

try changing the intake mani gasket…

That would be obnoxious. but noted. I’ll check it all out this weekend. It’s getting worst and inconsistant!![]()
I dont know if this has any relevance to your question but maybe you could use it. I used to own a 88 Teg and it had the same problem. I disconnected the TPS and drove it without it being hooked up although i beleive i got crappier gas mileage.
