hey g2ic, my 90 teg has a b17 swap with j1 transmission running on a obd0 pr3 ecu and obd0 distributor vtec engagement at 4500 and tuned on vafc.the problem im having is that ive noticed that the factory rpm gauge starts jumping around 5500 to 8000 when under hard acceleration after vtec engages im not sure if this is normal but the car drives perfectly fine pulls hard and everything ive heard from sources on oz Honda and tampa racing that it may be a bad connection to the igniter inside the distributor…looking to see if it could be anything else or looking to see if its anything anyone else has had or dealt with…all info is appreciated thanx
I would expect this problem to be rooted in the distributor. It could be something minor like a loose connection for the tach signal wire, or it could be the start of a more serious problem like a bad ignition coil or bad igniter. I would inspect the wiring at the distributor to make sure all the connections are good, clean, and there are no broken wires. I’d also pull the distributor cap off and inspect the wires and connections inside. Unfortunately there’s not much else you can do until the problem gets worse unless you’d just like to preemptively replace the coil and igniter just to be safe.
Yeah I already have a new coil and igniter on hand as I’ve had this problem before when I had the ls installed was just checking to see if it was anything else
Check the connection to the igniter. If they are good, then replace the igniter.
