bouncing speedo at idle

ok so i finished my b16 swap in my 92 integra. it runs great i just have one problem. when i start the car up in the speedo jumps and stays between 80mph and 100mph. when i shut it off it will stay at 20-40mph. before i did the swap i did not have this problem but now i do. i did swap my vss from my ls tranny to my y1 cause it has that power steering thing on it.
can anyone help me fix the problem. i tried moving the cable around but it will not change.

i searched but in all the cases it happens while there moving not at a stand still. also i didnt that anyone had the problem it the speedo not returning to the 0mph mark

EDIT--------ok since then i have replaced the speedo cable with a new oem honda cable. after i installed everything i went to move the car forward and the speedo jumped from 0mph to 140. i never went of 2mph. am i suppose to grease the cable?what do i grease it with.

80+ view with no help?

Are you throwing any codes? Maybe your speedo cable is messed up. Does the speedo move at all besides when you turn the car on and off?

car has zero codes. the car runs great. i couldnt be any happier with it. but this speedo thing is frustrating me. when i turn the car off then pull the cable out the speedo will stay at 20mph then slowly drop. i have never herd this prob before. i did pull my cluster out and replaced the bulbs with amber ones before i even put the motor in. could that have somthing to do with it

I’m wondering, maybe you need to add more lubrication to the speedo cable on both ends, that helped when my speedo was doing that slow decrease that you experience when you pull the speedo cable out completely. Also maybe when you did your bulb changes you didn’t push the speedo cable in all the way on the speedo, so check that and check to make sure it’s all the way in the VSS as well.

ok i will try both of those things. if that does not work i will just buy a new speedo cable

PLEASE READ THE EDIT. i edited the post please read and help

make sure the speedo cable is plugged in all the way. other than that, speedometer is probably bad. switch it out with another cluster and see if thats the problem

so you disconnect the cable at the vss, and the speedo reads 20mph then drops?
it’s your cluster then. probably a problem with the coil

since then i have a brand new speedo cable. i made sure it was pluged in the whole way.
*wat kind of grease do i use
after i installed the new speedo i moved the car forward and it jumped to 140mph. i unplged it from the vss and it droped to 120mph.
*wat i dont get is that the speedo was fine before the swap. i also used the vss from my ls tranny.

this is an odd one because theres not like you had something electrical fail, the only thing i can think of is maybe the cable was a little bound or something and your cluster simply broke, it might of been on its way out for awhile and just now failed. try swapping another cluster and let us know what happens.

it’s not completely mechanical. there is a coil inside the cluster.

video added.

its got to be the cluster. swap it with another one. i’m sure it’ll work fine

ok the thing is though if i swap speedos i dont want to loose my milage.

you may be able to swap the odometer bar. or you should be able to adjust the new bars numbers. i know i was able to on my sisters eg

ok i will order another cluster and see if that works

check your distributor, i had a problem similar, i found a little corrosion on a terminal inside the distributor. also make sure you have a gasket on the cap and make sure it seals, hope this helps
good luck

its the speedo, not tach
