bouncy probles with new shocks?

Alright guys I bought me a set of skunk2 sports shocks and I have a set of Ebay sleaves on them. The shocks are completly asembled corectly I mean, its pretty eassy the only thing that is missing is that dust cover or what ever its supposed to be that comes on the OEM shocks. Now when Im driving down the road and ride over any little bump Im bouncing like crazy as if the shocks where gone and I’m just riding on springs. Ive took the shock out trying to figuer something out and I cant come up with anything, and the shocks are compresing well because I checked to make sure and I can push them down and you feel that they aren’t blown so IDK what the roblem is.

can anybody give me an Idea of what it may be I was thinking maybe I need to get rid of the sleves.

Its ur ebay springs man

I believe those skunk2 shocks are stiffer then regular shocks. ebay coilovers+skunk2 shocks=bad ride. Try the ground control coilovers. best that money can buy. Or the skunk2 coilovers. they’re koo.

your cheap ebay springs are functioning like they should. there are no problems in your set up other than you trying to skimp out on buying quality products…

do it right the first time so there wont be a next time…

The cheap springs are generally made in China products that are mass produced and made with cheaper softer steel. The spring rates tend to not be set well and are wayyy softer that you would typically use in our cars.

This isn’t to say all china or ebay product are necessarily bad, they just sacrifice quality for quantity to bring in super low prices… As the saying goes though… you get what you pay for, and sometimes a penny saved = 3 more spent really soon.

See and it didn’t bounce like that with the old OEM shocks witch I though was wired but I’ll look into some good quality springs.

I installed skunk 2 struts and springs in my nephews DC2 about 3 weeks ago it rides like a lexus…

I have a set of Eibach lowering springs nice drop and great ride just recently swapped to Ground Control Coilovers so I have for sale 100 shipped!

1.8 Front
1.5 Rear

I want mi ride a bit more lower than that so im gonna pass on the offer but thanks you prob sold them by now to.

Have you guys personally rode the ebay sleeves? Or are you just saying it because they are cheap, no name, and ebay? Lol…
Not saying I dont think you should buy a better product… But I came across a miata thread of a guy testing the springs and racing on them, with surprisingly well results.
They honestly arent as bad as everybody makes them seem, well… If you are lucky enough to get a pair with half way consistent spring rates… Honestley the ebay springs are known for being overly stiff for DD. Most in the 400-500 lb range all around.
My car came with them and I can still rail corners better than just about anybody in my pack, suspension setups vary quite a bit within that pack also.
They are pretty damn stiff, no bounce. Me myself am weary of skunk2… But maybe you got one of the many crap sets of springs…? I would get GC and see if that fixes it. If not, ditch the junk2. I just ordered my GC yesterday, cant wait to get off this damn ebay/kyb shit. Not saying it’s good, but for $40 sleeves… I would rather rock those with some good shocks then spending $500 on some “jdm tyte colorful coilovers”

I have ebay springs with tokico blues… at higher speeds they are definitely bouncy, street sppeds they feel stiff. another issue it the crap aluminum tubes tend to mushroom on the perches.

My teg came with that suspension setup like yours dlo… I can’t totally knock it, but little things that are important for tactile feedback that I have experienced in other hondas with say GC sleeves & tokico shocks or neuspeed lowering springs was a night and day difference…

and as you indicate it is based on getting a set of ebay springs that are the top set in the 100 that were produced that run. Definitely a hit or miss scenario…

so yes I am speaking from experience. :stuck_out_tongue:

one key factor is that you may need to cut the bump stops by half to allow your shocks more travel up and down.
read your installation guide or look it up in sk2 site.
back when I bought the pro s coilovers the instructions suggest you can cut the yellow bump stop down to no less than 1.5" for a smooth less bumpy ride.
so at first it was stiff so I took em out and trimmed the bump stop and it was better.

Yeah, it is definitely a hit or miss type of deal. That’s funny you should say that, with the ones that came on my car I noticed they are almost smoother at high speeds. Totally opposite, how much you wanna bet they came from the same run? :stuck_out_tongue:

I hear you, I am by no means saying it’s a good setup and people should try it… But mine has served well, considering the price the PO paid for it. And that is another thing, I’ve only rode in my db2, and my buddies DA which has sk2 strut/sleeve combo. Mine was much smoother, so I don’t have much to compare to. Koni/GC setup in the works right now though anyways.

Good, I notice here and on CI that you usually do speak from experience. You know how the lovely interwebs can be though. Lol.

yeah totally man… too many “I Knows”, that don’t really know shit or talk out their ass cause they heard somewhere that someone once said something about some shit that worked for some guy in another state.

I’m thinking ima just go for illuminas with GC sleeves when I get to re-doing my suspension. I don’t really need 30 bajillion damping settings for my suspension, & the $$$ saved will pay for the Tanabe exhaust I been eye fucking on amazon
