i had this up before but i have not resolved it yet. i get massive brake fade when i have sustained braking 4-5 times in a row from high speed. after that the brakes always feel soft i have new brembo rotors and new pads and rebuilt calipers. i have bleed and rplaced the fluid a couple of times (brand new DOT 4). it feels awesome till i get fade again. my ABS has also been down for a while. could this be affecting it? maybe when the fluid gets so hot it some how runs into the ABS system? maybe i have no idea what i’m talking about?
Sounds like your master cylinder is going to need to be replaced. I too experience the brake fade like you are talking about after some repeated stomps on the pedal.
Also, have you checked out the prices for a new ABS module? It is the place that you fill with brake fluid on the passenger side of the car. Mine was acting up one day, so I drove to the dealership to ask them about the problem. They told me that it was going to run 1200 dollars for a new one, but that I shouldn’t worry about driving around w/o ABS. No ABS in a car with ABS isn’t a problem–the brakes work just the same (minus the ABS).
i just had my master cylinder replaced a year ago. when the master cylinder was going i would step on the brakes and they would then slowly go to the floor. this is now a different problem. my brakes are fine till i brake alot really hard. the pedal becomes spunge and goes to the floor. the brakes from then are not as stiff as they should be untill i bleed them again./???/  hahhhaaaaaaaaa:mad:
There is a chance that it could be your master cylinder again, it is worth looking into. Did you replace it with an OEM one??
If it is not your master cylinder then it is either your booster or your check valve.
Are you losing any brake fluid??
When he said pump, I think he meant to pump your brakes…
Hmm… how can a booster contribute to brake fade??
I does not.
Nor does the m/c, as long as we all interpret the term “brake fade” the same way.
Most likely, its a combination of cheap brake pads, and shitty brake fluid.
Or you glazed the pads during wear in.
Flush the fluid in favour of Ford DOT3 brake fluid, and get some decent pads.
It really sounds like your boiling the fluid or baking the pads… or both.
i have bembo semimetalic pads. i tried to brake in my pads properly. i have flushed the system 2 times. once with DOT3 and the second with DOT4.??? how do you check the master cylinder? and brake booster?
Im experiencing this problem too, more recently since the weather haz gotten hotter…, it was 112 degreez in Sacramento 2 dayz ago, and my brake went down to the floor forcing me to use my e-brake to avoid rearending the car in front of me at a light. I tested them around the block for awhile and it waz constantly fading each time. It waz very hot out and the brakez where like sponge. Tapping on them intermittently helped but if I pushed and held down the brake the car would not slow down “ebrake time” I got stock brake padz that arent worn and brembo rotorz on my setup. My brakez worked fine up until 2 dayz ago:confused:
I had the same prob with my gsr, I am led to believe it is the booster loosing pressure, or the pads you are using getting too hot, try some ebc green stuff pads they work wonders
Wow, this is an old thread, where do these keep coming from? Anyway, since I didn’t get to answer many months ago, I will do so now. That has all the signs of Fluid fade(boiling the brake fluid in the caliper). If it doesn’t happen under normal driving conditions and only after hard, high speed braking, there isn’t anything wrong with your braking system(other than it is a Honda braking system ) Try to search around and find a better brand of fluid, not all DOT 4 fluids are the same. Personally, with stock pads and rotors, I always faded the pads before I boiled the fluid. In your case, it is unlikely that you are fading the pads. If it were pad fade, then you would retain pedal feel, just lose braking force.
I lost a lot of fluid and the pedal was going to the floor. I filled it back up with fliud and had the problem a few more times and now it is gone:gay:
I was driving in the hot weather yesterday, and i had to pump the brakes in order to keep it from sinking to the floor. I checked out my rims, and found the drivers side inside lip splattered with a little grease/oil of some sort. is it possible I got a leak in the brake lines that’s causing this? Or could it be my damn CV boot cracking open again?
