Braking issues need help!

Ok so I have searched all over the internet and can’t seem to find a good answer or a problem similar to what I’m having.

I have a 91 GS with automatic transmission. When I purchased the car, the Anit Lock light was always on and I never thought anything of it because the car always stopped just fine and never had braking issues. After having the car a few months, I started having this issue. (Around a year ago.) My Anti Lock light would turn off, and when it was off, the brake pedal would pulsate at very low speeds just before coming to a stop. This problem came and went for awhile, and when the light was on, no issues. I had gone a few months with no issues, until a couple weeks ago when my light stopped coming on and the pulsating started happening again. However this time around when it does it, I hear what sounds like an electric motor or something running for about 3-5 seconds on the passenger side in the engine bay. And occasionally I will hear the sound without the accompanied pulsating when im just simply driving very slowly through a parking lot or something. Anyone know what this could possibly be? Is my ABS bad? Would like to know soon so I can get it fixed as it is very annoying and anytime there is a braking problem, it can be kind of scary. Remember however this is at VERY low speeds, i.e coming up to a speed bump or just before stopping at a red light.

If anyone has experienced something similar and can help at all I would really appreciate it. If you guys have any questions just let me know and I’ll do my best to answer.

The ABS systems in our integras are unfortunately pretty unreliable. The problem you have sounds very common in a lot of abs systems though. Usually the problem is a faulty wheel speed sensor. It is common when a sensor fails for the sensor to “drop out” during low speed. The system then thinks that wheel is locking up and commands an abs stop. When the abs computer finally realizes there is a fault and it is being fed inaccurate data, it throws a code and turns the abs light on. This disables the abs system and is why when the light is on, the car stops normally. You need to pull the code and figure out which sensor is faulty. The other option is an abs delete which many people opt for, but it is a lot of labour time to do properly. There is lots of info onthe forum about the abs system.
