broke something when launching

my friend has a 92 Integra and we raced today. He launched around 4500 rpm’s and he said he felt something broke. his car clunks and clanks when he turns the wheel and when going straight. It also only does this when in gear. He just put in a clutchmasters stage 1 and resurfaced the flywheel. He did the proper break in. Any help would be apreciated.

chech cv joints/boots

sounds like broken axles, like Louie55 said.

Ok thanks, but what i dont understand is that it only does it while it is in gear. Because we rolled backwards out of his driveway and it didnt do it. His dad said that it’s his clutch because it only does it in gear. Could this be the case? thanks for any help!

in my words that i cant explain well. i think when ur rolling it isnt providing any torque or any grip is need in the joints. but when ur moving in gear it turns the joints and if it is broken the metel will hit and probably wont move much with out damage. check the joints first then if thats not it check ur clutch.

Exactly, when you’re pushing the car (or allowing gravity to push the car), the axles do not have to overcome the resistant friction of the tires to spin.

I have the same problem. Let me tell ya it’s Not the CV Axles!!! I replaced the next day after the noise. I talked with several transmission and Master Mechanics, and they said it’s more than likely my throw out bearing. I have an ACT Clutch. When I did the motor swap one of the diaphragms fingers got bent. So we bent it back, and Now i think it’s slipping and making me some major problems.
