broke wheel bearing?

Ok last week i rotated my front wheels to the rear of my car because my camber is bad in the front. While doing so i realized that the boot had broken on the rotor end of my axle. I drove on it for a few days then decided to fix it. Today i rip off the axle off then throw the remanufactured one on. Everythings cool. then i drive it and it still feels all rough like it did before. Could it be from a bad wheel bearing or maybe the remanufactured axle is bad. Its a rough feeling that i can feel when i have my foot on the gas pedal. Any ideas of what it could be, or suggestions of what to do are greatly appreciated. thank you.

On another note my abs light came on after the axle instalation. why did it do that?

I think you’re talking about the CV (constant velocity) joint?

If it has gotten progressivly worse since it first started and even after you’ve changed the axle, and if it makes noise no matter what, driving forward, backwards, turning, whatever, then it IS your bearing. You’re better off getting a used spindle at the junkyard. Replacing just the bearing will cost more. This is if you do your own work.

Don’t know about ABS, don’t got it

For your first problem. Jack up the suspected wheel and grab it at the 12 and 6 O’clock positions and wiggle it. If there is play then its your wheel bearing. Also with a bad wheel bearing there will be a noise coming from it when your driving. It will usually stop when your making either a left or right turn. Now for the easy one. Did you get an axle for a GS?? If not then it wont have the ABS sensor ring on it. If you did get one for a GS then you’ll need to take it back and switch it for another one because the gap between the sensor and ring is too far and theres no adjustment. I had this happen to me. The ring is on the outter halfshaft. Its a metal band that goes all the way around the halfshaft.

dude if you have never rotate your tires before… if the tires were different brand the car will feel completely diff… crappy tires == crappy feel and loud as mof

often the cause of the wheel bearing going out is someone pounding on it (when reassembling) after replacing the axle. The excessive pounding causes the seal to break and the lubricant to leak out/dirt get in thus not spinning perferctly.

When you replaced the axle did you get an ABS axle. It has what looks like a gear with teeth at the outer end just inside the spline that goes into the hub. If you didn’t get one of those that would explain your ABS problem. Or, you may have messed up the sensor or its wiring when you took it off to replace the axle.

are you sure the CV joint did not seperate inside the boot during reinstallation? I did this once but realized it before I got everything back together, had to put the joint back together by taking off the boot and sliding it back into the cup, very messy. I don’t know what it would be like if you tried to drive on a seperated CV, or even if you could…
