Alright car was broken into and the the ignition was destroyed. They never broke the steering wheel lock as that is still working. Wondering does anyone know if i can just replace the ignition cylinder and get a new key or should i replace the whole thing?
Also I can not find a new cyl for our car does anyone know if other model fit or work?
To replace the cylinder assy you have to drill out the rivets. You can ask someone who is parting out their car to sell you their ignition and door, hatch and glovebox cylinders.
… You can ask someone who is parting out their car to sell you their ignition and door, hatch and glovebox cylinders.
Does he have to replace ALL of the locks? A locksmith should be able to rekey the replacement cylinder to his old key, unless this one is something special?
oh so to replace the tumbler i need to drill out the rivets on the old one or is it best to just find a new housing and tumber all together as im sure the idiots destroyed my oem housing prying at it last night.
Easier and cheaper this way. The only problem. Is Acura will not be able to cut a new key using the vin # if you loose your keys. I sold a complete set for $70.00 when I parted out my 93 LS.
Easier and cheaper this way. …
Probably true, but a locksmith only charged me $30 to do this on a different vehicle, including a key. Can you replace a door lock on this car w/o disassembling the door? That can be difficult, and the plastic sheet inside the door is very fragile after 20+ years.
Very easy to change out the door cylinders. All you need to do is gain access to the holes drilled in the door frame to get to the bolts and unhook the rods on the outside. A small piece of duct tape would reseal the holes in the moisture barrier.
Went to go have a good look at the damage. The Ign Cylinder is missing and the ignition housing has been cracked open in the process while they removed it. The alarm wires to the module were disconnected and now my power door locks no longer work great…
Does it make any sense that after punching out the door lock cyl and prying up the handle they could of disconnected something in the door lock wiring or i have some hidden wiring issue now.
It sucks that they punched in your lock cylinder, these cars are rediculously easy to slimjim. I hope you are lucky and they popped the retainer clip and did not break the plastic that it mounts into. They could have damaged wiring on the lock mechanism if they inserted anything into the back of the door frame. Were your locks tied into the alarm with relays?
they pried and damaged the door, the door handle is broken and sticking out and the lock cyl is inside the door pannel/ frame now. The door locks were wired into the alarm. I plugged back in the three connectors that were removed that alarm still functions but not the door locks. I will either check the fuses or maybe im guessing a short when they yanked the wires out of the control box.
