Budget K Swap?

I searched and found  and rather than post in the tech section, here’s just a feeler post and my latest news.

I am getting my hands on a K24 from a 2015 CR-V and (provided things go to plan) a 6-speed trans from a 2015 Civic Si, all for $100.00
(good… good, let the hate flow through you!)
Engine is a definite, trans is very likely. It would be foolish not to jump at such an opportunity, though the engine needs rebuilt and the trans needs a new 4th gear syncro and/or shift collar. So the question looms… has anyone swapped a K into a DA yet? K-Tuned sells a swap package for $3000 + and you need to make a special call in for EF and DA swaps, so obviously the parts and knowledge are out there. I’m sure with a little ingenuity, some help from my G2iC friends, and a lot of bargain shopping and junk yard searching I could make this happen for a lot less money. V-TEC Academy has a video series and write up on a budget K swap into an EG that they did for $3200 including the drive train, so if I could get away with $2K (plus rebuild parts) I would probably be a very happy camper. I’m sure there are a few specifics regarding swapping into our older chassis though.

To be honest, your better off buying a healthy clean k24 longblock for 350-400 or even 500 bucks than paying a machine shop to rebuild the one your getting. I seen them all the time going for that on craigslist and Facebook. Or buy a k24 Block and a type s head and mate them ( that would be the best way to build a k24/k20 and be on a budget) based on the fact you do you own labor. If you are going to pay someone to do it for you… there is no such thing as a budget K swap.

As far as the transmission goes research prices on the parts your going to need to do a rebuild… chances are once you open it some of the other syncros could be worn out and it might need a full rebuild. They prob beat the crap out of that tranny already since it needs 4th gear work.

Yes, there have been plenty of K-swapped Da in the past. thats kinda old news already. search honda-tech there is a 2 very detailed step by step K swapped Da build in there. All the stuff you will need and what needs to be done.

finding good deals and doing your own Labor and Wiring you will spend 3500++ regardless what anyone says. If you going to pay someone to do the work expect to pay 5000+ for the swap.

if you really want to go K swap, DO IT ONE TIME AND DO IT RIGHT. no offense or anything but your 2K budget will barely get a b20 vtec running clean with decent manifold and headers and a tune. There is no way you will put a k swap in a DA for $2000.

here is a link to a k24 engine and also a k20 engine for less than 400 bucks each… with 90 days warranty. there is many more deals like that all around.

at the end of the day, even after you have a k20 or k24 non type s you will want to swap either a k24 tsx swap or a k20 type s head and k24 block.

there really is no benefit of swapping a regular non type S k20 swap in your car. you will get walked by a lot of b series.

I’m gonna go ahead and shit on your parade here and if fast is what you’re after a budget boosted LS will still kill your K swap. If you just want a K swap then go for it.

I can do all my own labor, including rebuilding the engine. Machine work would be the only thing I’d need to pay a shop for. I can rebuild the trans as well, and yes, I can confirm the trans was beat on. First/second gear shift collar has already been replaced, so fourth probably needs the same. Trans has about 20,000 miles on it.
If 3K is the general swap price, maybe I’ll just stretch the project out for longer and invest a little more for a better build rather than try to go small budget.
As for going fast, I have a turbo to rebuild that I was going to boost my B18B with, so maybe I’ll just look into finding a K20 head and build the K24 block and boost that!

why not go b20 vtec they are really fun and cheap to build.
or even H2b…H23 engine you would only need a qsd kit. you can keep all your B series stuff as well without breaking the bank on mounts and stuff and have 230Hp all motor with bolt ons. that would be the closes you can get to a 2.4 K build. spending a lot less money with similar power bands.

or just boost you LS… that would be also ideal without breaking the bank.

regardless the only way i would go K swap is… if i have money to blow and building a legit all out build for All motor track.
