bumper turn signals as fog lights

Hi,
Today I was thinking about making the parking lights a two stage bulb so that they could be used as a blinker as well. This way I could use the bumper turn signals as a secondary fog light. Has anyone seen this done before? What are peoples opinions on this? Also, Would the stock housings be able to withstand the heat of an HID bulb? I test fitted one and I know that it will fit in there, but if I do this, I do not want the housing to melt.

Thanks,
Miles

I see quite a few problems with that plan, the biggest being using an HID bulb in your turn signal…

i wouldn’t turn my bumper lights into running light unless it was a duel stage signal light as well. also, just having the small 192 bulb be a signal light is NOT bright enough, especially if you’re gonna be running bright bumper lights. no one is gonna see your signal lights when u they in use.
just do what myself and other members have done; get a duel stage socket and trim it to fit your signal light housing so it can be a parking light and a signal light.

I was thinking that I could replace the sockets with something different, such as an h1 for the bumper lights. then make the corner lights some dual stage socket so they could be brighter.

Thanks

it’ll be kinda hard making the corner lights a dual stage bulb because of the amount of room that it DOESN’T have. you’ll have to take apart the rear of the corner housing to extend and modify it in order to fit a dual stage bulb(i.e. 1157 bulb). also, the body frame of the car doesn’t give you enough room(you would have to cut/trim some of the metal in order to make everything fit). it is completely do-able, just a lot of work.

for using h1 or h3 bulbs for the bumper lights, that seems real easy and quick to do. good luck on the project.

i was always interested in modifying bumper lights/fog lights from 89 integra into the 2ng gen. that would look sick.

Doesn’t your state, city have laws that apply restricting the colour and use of your running/fog lights?

i am happy to modify the area behind the lights. I need projects to do since everyone is at school and I work only half a day. I am sure Mass has some laws about the color of the lights, however, I have been driving around for five months now with independent fogs running 3000k and not had any trouble in the day or at night. I would most likely put these on a secondary switch so they will only come on if both the fog switch and the secondary switch is on.

Will a HID bulb melt these housings? And where can i buy some clear lenses because mine are orange.

I’d be willing to bet that HID bulbs will:

  1. Melt the housings
  2. Blind everyone coming towards you since there is no glare guard in there.

I changed the sockets to duel filament Parking / Turn lights.

The dimmer filament is on with the parking lights, and the brighter filament is the turn signals.

This is an old pic, my fogs are now yellow, but you get the idea.

Corners, Stock Fogs, Projector fogs in the grill, and dual filament bumper lights (turn signals and headlights are off in this picture).

Hey guys… I’ve been trying to do that to my car for a while now but I can’t figure out how to wire it… I’m not to bright with wiring… Any ideas?

@92jdmda6- yes, take it to an electrician
