burning coolant and oil..

well, let me first explain my situation, my oil pan is leaking, so i go through oil like i do boxer shorts, i change everyday, just about. so the other day i was out of my normal 10w30 i was running, so i put a bottle of 10w40 in, and i guess i put too much in, and i was burning off coolant, i guess as a reaction to too much oil??

anyway, lately i’ve been burning off coolant at WOT, i go home, fill up my radiator, and then go back out again… so my question is, is it the head gasket? because i just replaced it like …500 miles ago, or could it be the different weight oils? i know that this different weight of oil is bad, but i need this replacement oil pan, it’s supposed to be coming in the mail!!

help

Did you resurface the head when you changed the gasket?

If you have a severely warped head, it is possible to burn coolant even after a head gasket change

You might have blown your head gasket by putting too much oil in.
If you put too much oil in, you run the risk of having too much oil pressure and in return, it will find a way out through the head gasket.
If you are going through coolant and you dont have a coolant leak then it is probably your head gasket.

thanks br,

i’ll check out my head gasket today, and how can i be sure that it’s blown?

The test is done usualy by putting high air pressure through each piston with the radiator cap open. If water bubles start appearing then the engine head gasket is leaking… The air pressure must be realy high to simulate the pressure u get normaly during combustion.

Hope it is not ur engine head gasket again! It is one hella of a job!

i dont have a vacuum pump, you think my …shopvac would work?.. lol

why do you say it’s hard to replace the head gasket? all you have to do is take off the head, i think it’s one of the easiest gaskets… er not even the head, just the valve cover

if you just took your valve cover off to replace the gasket… that wasn’t your head gasket you replaced…

Head gasket is quite a big job, and quite costly too (gasket, bolts, etc…)

fun…

i’m gonna be doing a head swap, so i should wait to buy all the new gaskets at that time, right?

Do a compression test to find out if it is blown. Just get a compression tester, pull out all of your spark plugs and test each cylinder one at a time.
The tester will come with instructions on how to use it.

With that oil pan, how much are you paying to get it. Because it can be a good thing to have done at a good shop. Because of one thing. My shop is charging me 150 and they are rebending the pan and installing. It is also warantied? so if it ever leaks, they pay for it. That and I dont want to go therough the hassle of replacing this again. (retard before me replaced it without a torque wrench)
