Just recently I’ve been noticing I guess a burning smell. It really got noticible since I changed oil. I changed oil Saturday. I have no idea what it could be but burning oil. But something tells me it could also be around the radiator (coolant). I’m afraid this will turn into something real bad. If anything can anyone tell me what it is or what I can do to find out. Or should I even be worrying… Any help/advice would be great… thanks.
does it smell sweet? burning coolant smells extremely sweet and almost sugary i believe. check your valve cover gasket if it hasn’t been replaced for awhile and cam plug if the leak could be oil.
sweet? i dont know if it smells sweet… its a sorta burning smell. and if oil was burning should’nt there be smoke? this shit is irritating the hell out of me… could it possibly be anything else? will flushing the radiator help? change oil?
found a nasty site under the car. some kind of grease of some sort is akll over the pipe. something musta rubbed. gunna clean it up to see if smell persists
… is it oil? maybe the oil filter was put on too tight or loosely? if u think it happened after ur oil change and it wasn’t doing it b4 its prolly related. are u leaking oil over the floor? oil level ok? coolant level?
coolant level is ok. ive checked it over and over and it would go low and back high but thats normal becuz the process is reversible with the coolant. smell was really noticible after the oil change which was this sunday. i have yet to check under the car becuz my car sits pretty low. like 2 inches from the ground the pipe. i have yet to check oil level once i am at a flat surface
… u can’t tell if ur car is leaking oil on the floor cuz its too low??? why don’t u move the car back a few feet?
also which pipe are u talking about that is all covered up in oil/grease? oil/grease…sounds like oil to me. coolant wouldn’t really build up or give u a greasy look unless it dripped and soaked into some dirt or something. but u should be able to tell the diff.
SUPER late reply. looks like plastic that burnt up real bad… i sanded it off… its all good now. its was a real pain in the ass to get it off… ihad to chip it then sand
haha… yeah i got a plastic carls jr cup melted onto my cat converter once. i chiseled off what i could, but it still smelled for a week or so. :squint:
