Cable to Hydraulic Tranny Conversion?

I have a cable tranny in my teg, and I’m sick of it, I would really like to convert over to a hydraulic tranny so I can have more options. Is there any kits on the market or any ideas on how to do this conversion?

I have been thinking about doing this too, but I would decide what option you are going to go with first. I could just install a B16 that uses a cable tranny right? And Vtec-Ls can also use a cable, but most people say that it wouldn’t be very fun to drive with LS tranny. I would just like to decide what to do and do it all at once.

:search:
I was looking up this topic the other night and it’s been gone over MANY times.

for info about the conversion, do a search (yes, its be gone over many times) —sorry to say but you’re going to be dissappointed.

now why would you want to switch to hydro? “more options” what options are you referring to? Here are some things you should know:

-if you are thinking that hydro trannies have better gearing: there are cable trannies with nearly the exact same gears as the ITR hydro tranny and other hydro trannies. And if thats not close enough for ya, hydro gears will fit in your cable tranny case.

-is it lsd you’re worried about? well, again, LSD’s will fit in your cable tranny too.

-is it clutches you’re worried about? there isn’t any difference between the quality or grip of hydro and cable clutches. In fact all 92+ b series clutches are interchangable (most are actually the same thing), and 89-91 clutches are the same except for they are designed to work with the slightly differently sized shaft on the 89-91 trannys (which by the way could be removed and replaced with a 92+ part, thus allowing you to buy 92+ clutches… which are a little more abundant and usually a little cheaper)

-is it flywheels you are worried about? all b series flywheels are interchangable.

Those are really the only options for a tranny i can think of. And personally i’d much rather have a cable tranny. I like the feel much better than hydro. I really like being in touch with my car (stiffer suspension, no power steering, cable clutch… are all things that let you “feel” the car and what its doing just a little bit better). Plus, when you start comparing tranny prices you’re going to realize that for a vtec cable tranny you are going to pay $300-$550, for a vtec hydro tranny you’re going to pay $600-$1000.

And Vtec-Ls can also use a cable, but most people say that it wouldn’t be very fun to drive with LS tranny.

Are you telling me to do a search? The statement that I made (most people say that it wouldn’t be very fund to drive a LS tranny) obviously shows that I did do a search, or I wouldn’t have known that. Come on man, I spend friggin hours in the search engine and friggin archives. Throw me a friggin bone here!

not sure who you’re talking to (me or SE-37K) —i wasn’t even really directing my post to you in the first place, basically just to the original poster to help answer his question. also, i didn’t even talk at all about the non vtec vs vtec tranny options. I was only explaining the cable vs hydro stuff. if you weren’t directing your post at me… then disregard this.

It’s all good bro, I just didnt’ want to get my first “Do a Search” reply from somebody since I always do a search.

hehe, i know what ya mean. don’t worry, i wouldn’t dis on a chico brotha anyway, lol.

I know cable trannies are cheaper and have similar gear ratios to hydro trannies. It’s just that it’s easier to get a hold of a hydraulic transmission it seems like then getting a hold of a cable SiR tranny. As for LSD, I could really care less about them, but wouldn’t mind one.

Oh, and whoever was refferin’ to the LSVtec using an LS tranny, don’t do it, it’s true, it is no fun, you fall out of VTEC all the time. That is why when I did my conversion, I also used an SiR tranny, I just need a new one, because mine has some grindage problems.

keep the cable trans… why are you sick of it?? you can do all teh same stuff… and plus… cable trans has a better feeling to it… like no power steering… you can feel everything… i ove my cable trans… wouldnt change it

it would probably be your best bet to rebuild the tranny. for the price of a hydro tranny (or if you get a deal on parts the price of another cable tranny) you can have a brand new rebuilt tranny… which would be better than buying a hydro and better than getting another cable.

by your response i’m guessing you didn’t search about the conversion… do a search, that should bring ya around.

Yeah, I didn’t do a search, I’m new to these boards and I guess I haven’t found the search part yet. Sorry.
