Cable VSS to Electrical VSS

Ive looked and looked but i cant seem to find a lot of info just complete removal or loop of p.s. Im wanting to do the S2000 cluster install in my 90 teg but i need a electrical vss to make it work. When it comes to the cable vss on our vehicles the power steering is connected to it and the electrical vss doesnt have the ports for the hoses. I wanna keep my power steering but how can i still use it without the cable vss? Will it still work if i just connected the lines together or would it create to much pressure or steering problems? Thanks for the help

that should be the speed sensing for power steering. you can join the hoses. it won’t damage anything. your power steering may just be either lighter or firmer than usual.

Yea… youre good to just bridge them. No real adverse effects will occur.

Electronic vss question

I have a b18a with a ys1 tranny. i wanna convert my mechanical vss to electronic. what year e-vss would i need to get that will fit just right and are automatic and manual e-vss the same? thanks

Ill chime in since i have done the s2000 conversion and this is what you need to do…grab a dc2 speed sensor with the pigtail. It has three wires: positive , signal sending wire, negative. I do not recall the colors at the moment but ill look on my car when its not -30 outside…but what you have to do is ground the negative, signal wire split in two wire ( one wire to signal wire on cluster pigtail in dash and the second split wire to the vss wiring on the ecu harness). Positive goes to yellow wire which is ignition power…hopefully this helps

Thanks welfare, once i looped the two lines i took it on a test drive and was just as you described it was alittle firmer than usual but still better than no power steering.

The auto VSS and manual VSS are not the same. Any year manual B series VSS will work for you. Also, if I’m not mistaken, Type-Rs and SIs had the metal gear inside (don’t know how much that matters).

The entire cluster swap is actually pretty easy. I used a DC2 cluster for the time being because I want to do something no one has done, and it’s taking me quite a while to gather all the appropriate sensors and converters.

How hard is it to convert to a s2k cluster

if you want to use you power steering and hook them up to your vss, use a 90-93 accord electronic vss. it has the power steering lines in it.

Op. Did you get this figured out? I also would like to convert to electrical vss as well.
