CAI Air filter question.

What filters can fit on the AEM CAI?

Any filter that is the right diameter, i think 2.5 inches, will fit on there.

the aem is either 2.5" or 2.75" i think they have made both sizes. But size of opening on the filter isn’t a big deal. Most filters out there are made to fit a 3" pipe… but should fit all the way down to a 2.5" one… you just have to tighten the hose clamp.

so, just go get yourself a cone style filter.

The AEM filter is from what I understand propriatary. It is also rated as the best. It draws more air more smoothly than the other cheap aftermarket ones. They cost more but they are better.

Its a K&N filter

Stew

actually no

actually it is NOT a K&N filter, stew.

AEM used to use K&N filters for their intake products but in the last year or so, they began to use their own filters. There isn’t much of a difference, if any. I think that AEM just wanted the entire product to be theirs.

I agree about the cheapo filters, but you wont notice the difference. They may not last as long as a K&N, or AEM, or some other esteemed brand, but you won’t see a drop in performance.

Just so you know… you don’t necessarily need a new filter if yours is dirty… you can get filter cleaner and get some more life out of it… unless its got more than 30,000 miles on it.

ok, well i just wanted to know since it is the open filter type and its in my wheel well and the plastic that coverd that area is not gone so you can see the filter in the wheel well. and it gets wet when it rains. I realy wanted to know if i could put one that is more like a closed side filter on it

if the plastic is gone, thats a big problem. You should replace it because you are risking hydrolock when it rains. Your filter CAN hold some water out but when it gets really wet, things could go bad. I’d try and be safer with the plastic.

i mean the plastic for the wheel well lining, not on top of the filter

and since i got to drive my car for work in the rain it gets prety wet, but i never drive while WOT when its wet

thats what i was talking about.

try to replace it because it really helps when its wet.

Actually no they are still K&N filters if you didnt get yours with a K&N filter your gettin ripped dude sorry inform you! But they still use the K&N’s

Oh by the way do you have the air bypass on your CAI, cuz if you do you don’t really have to worry about the hydro lock, even when completely sumberged in water in wont take in water. No need to worry!

do you wanna bet? :stuck_out_tongue:

yes

go to the aem website and see if you see K&N anywhere… when u do… get back to me… Unless they started to use K&Ns again, you won’t find anything. But prove me wrong.

Hah all that is, is a K&N filter with an AEM Logo on it, dont be fooled, I have a friend that works for AEM. They just like to call it “their” filter

Hey were is Fair Lawn, New Jersey? I’m in Freehold ever been around there?

fair lawn is in bergen county… right next to paramus and paterson. Im not sure where freehold is, but im sure its not far from me at all.

what i heard about the AEM filters is that they started to produce their own, which may be exactly the same as K&N, but they stopped using the K&N. So you may be right… they could still be using the K&N and putting their name on it… whatever, its pointless to argue about it. Either way, its a great filter.
