CAI intake question

I purchased a cold air intake from ebay about 3 months ago. Install was easy and I think it is a great product, but I have a question about what is better. I have seen a lot intakes with 3" diameter piping and my intake has like 2.25" or 2.5" piping. I was wondering if anyone has tried both to let me know which is better. Does a cold air intake perform better on these cars than a typical short ram intake with 3" piping? The good thing I see about the smaller piping is how it is almost the same diameter as the throttle body so air velocity should be faster, but yet with the larger piping I think it would flow more air. What do you guys think? What diameter piping does AEM use with their cold air intake on a B18A?

TIA

Don’t quote me but…

I think that AEM uses 2.5 on anything smaller than the B16 . My friend has a Civic EX and it uses 2.5 and he has a hell of a time finding a filter for it…around here they only carry 3 inch filters.

yes the AEM is 2.5 diameter. The akimoto intake is 3 inches. that is what Dan (g2guru) is running with a custom extension…

i think, especially with a stock throttle body and non-heavily modded car, it doesn’t really matter. I wouldn’t mind personally having a 3 inch diameter intake, since my TB is pretty large, and we had to stretch the dickens off the connector tube to get it to hit.

my AEM cold air intake diameter is 2.75". The older version AEM intakes were 2.5". RS Akimoto, DC Sports and just about every other short ram intake on the market is 3".

are you sure about that, on the 90-93 integras?

hehe… kind of. i had the old one… the two piece one… then before I installed it, I decided i wanted a new one piece one, so i sold it to Tri.

I know I have seen these over bored throttle bodies getting up to 70mm but how many inches is that? ( i am being lazy)

70mm = 2.75 inches (i just did the calculation)… see that’s why it’s hard for me to believe that the AEM CAI is 2.75 inch diameter. My erick’s TB is 70mm inlet, (it’s not over bored, it’s made that big)… and we had to really stuggle to get the tubing to fit up to it.

did they make a “new” verision of the one piece CAI? because I could have sworn it was smaller than my TB, and my TB is 2.75in (70mm)
