ok, so i’m leaking oil threw the cam plug on the left side of the engine near the distributor cap…i was wondering how hard it is to replace this and if there are any special tools or special ways of doing this? any help is appreciated

Probably the most easiest job you can do to an engine.
first step, remove all nuts holding on the valve cover, secondly. once the valve cover is off. there is going to be 2 nuts/bolts (cant remember) holding on this cover thing for the “cam seal”, than take that off, pull the cam seal off, slap a new one on, and put all that shit back together, simple as that.
damn wish i knew that a long time ago i would have saved alot on oil…lol thanks a lot!!!
Or you can even pry it out with a flathead screwdriver and tap it out with a malet if its the old style plug. Just make sure you get the new style plug that just pops in, they’re like 8 bucks and a hell of alot better.
I had to replace mine the other day, it was a royal pain. The plug was the most brittle thing i’ve worked on, you try and pry it and the plastic just flys off…What I had to end up doing was using a combination of flat head screwdriver and a knife to get as far as i could in one spot and wiggle it out. Eventually got it out and its all good:clap:
we did the one on my brothers DA in about a half an hour. its realy easy.
Dont for get the honda bond and make sure you get all the old stuff off to.:whisper:
No cam plugs are designed to pry out, they are all to be replaced by the precedure posted above. Just because you can man-handle a cam plug out and jam a new one in, doesn’t mean you are doing it the right way, and the results aren’t the same.
The cam plug has ribs or seals on it depending on which one you buy. If you just jam it in there, the ribs and seals aren’t going to be in their best orientation, but pushed to the side. And there is no way your going to install an aftermarket metal cam plug this way.
No one mentioned that you may have to replace the valve cover gasket since your pulling the valve cover off. I would anyway.
Replacing the valve cover gasket is like replacing an oil pan gasket. You only have to do it when it shows signs of leaking. They can be used for many years, even if the valve cover is removed and replaced often, until the rubber deteriorates. But it is worth mentioning.
If your gonna mention the valve cover gasket, might as well bring up the spark plug tube seals and rubberized nut washers. BTW, you can buy all these items in a VC gasket kit.
so what would a metal cam plug do for my engine?? worthe it? and where would i buy it.
The aftermarket cam plugs prevent oil leaks much longer that OEM cam plugs, but cost two to 4 times as much. They do look nice tho compared to a stocker.
Acura actually changed the design of the cam plug for 96 or newer model Integras. Now they are made of a harder rubber/plastic with rubber O-rings and cost around $5.00. Aftermarket cam plugs run around $20 and up.
i found a nice one on passwordjdm.com they want about $12 for it…it has two o-rings looks ok too. just not sure if i want to go with stock or not yet…i want to make my engine an ls-v
I used a cam plug for a 96+ GSR. Its plastic with two rubber o-rings. No need for hondabond and no more leak.
