cam seal question

I read here that a cam seal from a '96 GSR would work better on a G2 than an OEM. So I got one but ended up getting a hard plastic ring. I guess I was expecting the “plug” thing, like the same shape as the STR deals.
Did I get the right part?

thanks

i believe the correct part is cam end seal plug. i remeber going to acura and them handing me justa a ring gasket, os i had to clarify.

Yeah, it supposedly IS better than the old ones, but it’s a flimsy piece of plastic with an O-ring on it.

Well, I just decided to get an overpriced aluminum one since I don’t want to deal with driving to the dealer (the same guys who wanted $3.53 for each spark plug gasket).
Hopefully it lasts for the next 200Kmiles.

i just put a 98 GSR cam end seal couple weeks ago. no more oil leak now. personally i would not pay the extra $$ to get the aluminum seal. but, if you do want to get the STR end seal, I think 92GS-R has one that he can sell to you.

while u guys r on the topic of cam seals…the seals on the cam side needs changing as well. those dont leak as often but they do and it a pain to without an impact.

yes those are “cam seals” (between the cam and the cam gear)

cam seals near the cam gears aren’t that hard, maybe an hour.

Seals in general are biatchs. Why do they have to leak, sux.

can anyone follow up on this post and let me know whats steps i need to take to change my cam seal? how hard is it and generally what i need to do, i cant find it in my manual anywhere. thanks in advance

i asked for the rear cam seal, and got the right one, after like 4 tries----for the end lug, all u need to do is take off the valve cover, then take off that last bearing cap (exhaust side, of course)
i put a lil coat of permatex in the groove…it worked good, no more leak…thats it…not long at all

end plug

if you guys are talking about the end plug (on the left side of the valve cover when looking at the engine bay from the front, make sure you use hondabond when installing it, or it’ll leak.

if you can, get one for the 96+ GS-R… those came with a rubber O-ring which makes it less prone to leak as the ones for our year are.
