Hello all,
I’m going to replace the cam seal and various other parts on my b18a1 engine this week. The previous owner had a rubbery seal that was constantly leaking. I was curious what type of lubricant/sealant I should use on the new one when installing it? Thanks a lot!
if youre talking about the cam seal that is on the distributer end of the motor then get an aftermarket billet seal with the 3 viton o rings. no sealant needed. just clean the space really well and install it.
if youre talking about the cam seals on the cam gear end then use the oem seals.
The aftermarket billet seal is the best choice. It will never leak again. However if money or time is an issue, you can use oil resistant silicone gasket maker. Permatex makes good stuff.
For how little the billet seals cost i wouldnt even entertain any other method.
This is what I currently am about to use. It is the one in front of the distributor that is leaking. It’s not severe, but annoying.
Perfectly fine. Exactly what we’re talking about. Just clean out the area really well before installing that.
I ended up putting the new cam seal in, but I used too much force and the bolt broke. Can I buy a new cam seal cover or do I have to find a way to get the bolt out?

The bolt threads into the head I believe. You need to get the bolt out. If you drive it, it will spray oil everwhere and your car will catch fire and explode, killing you instantly causing a series events that will start the destruction of earth and all the sea creatures.
I beg of you, fix this properly and dont bandaid it.

I would hate to kill all the sea creatures. Can I use a grabit bit to get it out?
yea man me too…
you use whatever you have to to get it out. it may help to remove the other bolt and see if the whole cap/cam seal cover can be removed and you can just use a jam nut or vice grips to remove whats left. im pretty sure the cap isnt threaded…
