Well as most of you guys already know, my 92 integra has a b18b1 and has a broken swing arm, went to the junkyard bougth the part. I was wondering if there is any way on removing the cam without messing with the timing maybe by removing the screw from the sprocket?
Not 100% sure what you mean by broken swing arm but my advice would be if you aren’t confident in setting the timing then you shouldn’t be removing the cams in the first place. The cam caps have to be detorqued and retorqued properly and if you reinstall them incorrectly you could cause some serious damage. My guess is you are removing them to change a rocker? I would suggest having it done by someone who has done engine work before.
The title of your post is inappropriate for G2iC. There is no need for that HELP!!! bullshit. By definition you are seeking help by posting in this particular forum section. Also, Cams question? tells nothing of your problem.
Also, while I do agree with 90da9teg’s sentiment above, if you want to destroy your car by playing around without knowing what you are doing, that is fine. It is how people learn.
BUT if you expect help, you need to learn the proper names for parts of your car. A good way to figure that out is to 1. Search and read on car forums. and 2. Go to a dealer website and learn what things are called.
Also, don’t assume anybody here knows anything about your car. You have made 5 posts since joining; you are hardly notorious.
This is a great community because we don’t put up with the same lazy bullshit that is allowed in other forums. Please help us keep it that way. You will appreciate it later.
Ok, the part that is missing in the first picture is called a rocker arm. However, you will want to replace that camshaft too since it is so chewed up. I mean, in all honesty, there is probably a ton of metal floating around in your engine and it is only a matter of time before it self destructs but I have been in the position where I had no money and needed a car so I understand if you want to try to fix it. Just know that you may start it and drive like 20 feet and the engine could seize up.
As far as the timing, I am sure there are lots of writeups floating around on how to change the timing belt on a B series engine. Just line everything up at Top Dead Center and take the timing belt off and then take that camshaft out. Put in the new one, making sure to lubricate where the cam caps hold the cam and the put the belt back on. Where you put the belt determines the mechanical timing and is either right or wrong. Since that is the intake cam that is messed up, you will have to adjust your timing with the distributor once everything is back together but you can either borrow a “timing light” or pay a small amount of money to have a shop set your timing.
You will also want to use a torque wrench on the cam caps and follow the proper torque sequence when reinstalling the new cam but you should be able to find that information online.
I highly suggest you try to flush the oil passages in that engine out to get as much metal out as possible. You will have steel and aluminum floating around in there…
Yeah, thats what i wanted to know, how to remve the camshaft, withoutmessing with the timming.
Thanks guys I apriciate it, hopefully by this Sunday the new rocker will be in place I will keep you guys posted!
damm that suckss bro missing rocker arm how the heck u do that…and a chewed up cam lobe -__-… well good luckk thatt repair isnt hard to do if u have the right tools…make sure u torque them bolts back to spec thats the most important. and TDC is very important as welll
:rockon:Finally placed a rocker arm in place. Right when I was getting ready to start unbolting the caps, my neighbor (who is a mechanic) told me that it was’nt necesary to remove the cam shaft, he took a flat head screw driver, pushed the valve down, and put he rocker arm in place,He saved my a$$ a lot of time!!! NOw is running like a champ!!
