Ok. So now I’ve swapped in my B16 and converted my tranny from auto to 5-speed. I want to build my internals the right way the first time. I always hear “CTR/ ITR cams are great but if you have the money, go for JUN or Spoon”. Any of you guys have either of the two? I’m willing to spend the money for them so please dont advise me to get the skunk2’s or anything else. Also, I plan to remain NA at least until next year, but how do either of these cams perform as part of a FI setup? Thanx in advance.
i’ve yet to hear any reports on how the spoon cams work. Basically i either see people go ctr/itr or like you said if they have more $$ either toda or jun.
dan has the toda spec b cams and seems to love them. He showed me some pics of them once and the primary lobes were huge!! I guess the toda cams are more of a road race design opposed to a drag design (meaning they give good power throughout the rpm range, not just top end power).

No, they are manufactured by Honda to Spoon specifications. I wouldn’t get wild cams of any sort if you plan to use them in an FI situation - CTR is as far as I’d go if using for FI in my opinion.
If I had my choice and could afford them, I’d be getting JUN 3s (just my personal preference). All depends on where you want to make your power:
No, Spoon cams are manufactured by Honda, and are just a slightly more agressive profile than the CTR cams or even closer to the Toda Spec As. For the money, I would go either JUN Stage IIIs or Toda Spec Bs.
If you go JUN, go JUN Stage IIIs. My friend had them in his ITR and they pulled really hard. You will need the valve springs and JUN ECU to really get the most out of them. My friend used to have a Mugen ECU and it didn’t do nearly as good. He made 198whp with his ITR motor and JUN setup.
If you go with Toda Spec Bs, you can run ITR valve springs as long as you don’t rev past 8600rpm. If you plan on revving past that, you will need the Toda Dual valve springs unless you want to float a valve…I didn’t think so ;).
If you plan on going FI, I would use the ITR or CTR setup. You don’t want a cam with a lot of overlap/duration. But if you don’t plan on going FI anytime soon, get the Toda or JUN cams. You can sell them pretty easily. They are always in demand.
Here is a shot comparing the Toda Spec Bs, CTR, and G2 GSR cams.
For a bigger picture of that, simply cut and paste that URL and add at the end .orig.jpg . That will give you a much bigger picture. Let me know if you have any questions. I’m always willing to help.
The JUN IIIs are very streetable. The primary and secondary lobes look close to the CTR lobes with slighly more duration, but the VTEC lobes are HUGE. Same size as the Toda Spec Bs. Idle does not lope at all. They run perfect with the JUN ECU, but if you were to run the JUN ECU you would need the OBD-1 to OBD-2 harness adapter for the ECU since the JUN ECU is OBD-2.

I’d be installing all of this in my buddies 2001 Type R.
