I need new valve springs, so I’ve been looking at cams as well! are these crower cams for real?? no. 62403? If I get them, they will just fit in?? I’ll have to buy the valve springs as well!
How about my rev limiter on my ecu, do I need to chip that?
Anyone has done this mod?
Humm, I think its too costy!! 400 for cam + 362 for valve springs and rtainers…
All I need is valve springs!! why can’t I find cheap normal or maybe a little better valve springs online for a B18a???
Many people here are quite happy with their Crower 403s…even the 404s for that matter. The only complaint some people seem to have is the lumpy idle and running rich.
As for the retainers and valve springs. Again, many people here run without the recommended Crower retainers and springs. I personally think you’ll be fine with OE retainers and springs as long as you don’t redline the engine often and/or raise its redline limit.
you can save yourself some money by not replacing the retainers. Your stock retainers will work just fine.
remember if all you need is valve springs, then you can just get valvesprings. these stiffer valve spring won’t hurt if used on your stock cams. But if you’re hungry for power, then now is the time to do cams.
lastly. the crower 403 cams work fine with the stock springs, but only as long as you dont rev higher than the stock redline. If you want to rev higher than the stock redline then you’ll need the springs. Also, if you want to rev higher than the stock redline you’ll need more than just springs and a chipped ecu. The stock bottom end won’t be as reliable when reving higher. It can take it, i’ve seen ls blocks rev pretty high in their stock form. But they definitely don’t last as long.
got the point guys! I would love some more power, but my financing is down at the moment, I’m just going to stick with stock springs and no cam change… Anyone can recomend an online store for the stock springs? so far I have looked in the partsbin.com and Napa and many other sites… they seem to carry everything but the stock springs!
If anyone knows a site please mention it. I’m sticking with the stock cams and springs for the moment…
Yeah, I’m running the Crower 403’s on stock springs with no problems. Just keep your stock rev limit (your bottom end wasn’t designed to be revved higher than that anyway) and you’ll be fine. You certainly don’t need retainers…
hey g2integrity, I was did a search and came across this thread. I am interested in getting some 403’s but I would not have enough money to change the springs and retainers and such.
So, you are running the 403’s with stock springs and everything? did you have to get anything else with them, or did you just keep everything stock? also, do you have adj. cams? how much of a gain did you notice? would you say that the $300+ for cams is worth the performance gain? hope i didnt ask to many questions. If anybody else has answers to these, i would appreciate a response. I am kinda new to the cam thing. thanks in advance.
