i know i know…i’m just asking cause my radiator sprung a leak so i had to change it.the temp. would go really really high and i think some damage might have been done to my engine…now that i have replaced the radiator and hooked everything back up,i want to know that it won’t heat up again.i filled it with just plain water for now cause i’ll flush out the whole system tomorrow then put the right mixture in.i’m thinking i should also do a engine flush with sea foam or something, maybe i burnt all my motor oil. the question is…can i run with just water tonight to make sure theres no leaks and no overheating? just for a short drive
Yes, that will be fine.

ya. afaik water is actually a better conductor. the radiator fluid is just to prevent freezing (hence anti-freeze) and helps to prevent corrosion. i actually ran just water for a while, too. no problems that i could see…
The boiling point of plain water is lower than a 50/50 mix with antifreeze. Also the rad should be pressurized by the cap. That also raises the boiling point of the coolant. You should be ok if the rad is pressurized and you don’t have other problems like a bad water pump. You will find out soon enough.
thnaks guys…no leaks as of yet…i was also wondering if i should flush my engine with some type of motor flush? it was already time for a oil change so i think the oil pretty much burnt up. any suggestions?
you an get a flush kit at pep boys for like 6bucks. hooks up to your hose
its probably too late to add to this, but you have to be careful with water, because if you do not flush it all out, rust can form inside your water system. not a good thing.
