can I use my subbox for PC?

ok now I have a pair of 12’s in a dualbandpass sitting in my garage because I opted to go for a single 12 . Is there a way so I can use them for my computer sound system? If there is can you guys tell me what get to make that subbox useful again. Like how to power it up and wire it up. thx

the right way to do it is get a better sound card(if you don’t already), like a Soundblaster live 5.1($60), you could plug your sub into that, with a mini jack adapter,

you could also get a receiver with a dolby 5.1 decoder, although pro-logic would also do the trick. hook the sound card to the receiver, receiver to your sub and you’re laughin.

I’m pretty sure you could do it ghetto style, by splicing together a set of speaker, and a sub but I’d imagine it’ll sound like crap

You’re right it will sound like crap if you get any sound at all. Do what scoob said … either way will work.

Ok i’m gonna be using the amp with it, How should I power up the amp like where should I connect the wiring like where would the ground ,remote turn on wire, and the power cable goes. Don’t they have to be connected somewhere to make the amp work? What else should I need to start shaking my room? thx

I second the use of the receiver. straight into sound card will sound like crap and probably damage your sound card like it did with my bass guitar amplifier. hah.

If you are dead set on using your car amplifier to power your sub box, hook a regulated 12-14V power supply or regulated battery charger to your amp in order to power it. The remote wire turns on your amp when 12V+ is applied to it so you can use a switch in-line of this wire to the positive of your power supply to turn your amp on at will.

If you hooked your box to a receiver, you’d have to wire the subs in series (given they are 4 ohms each) to make 8 ohms total because most home receivers/home amplifiers only handle speaker systems with an impedence of 8 ohms or greater per channel (6 ohms or greater if it’s a high-current, newer receiver/home amplifer).
