helpp!! i think my valves hit the pistons!! i recently advanced my intake cam +4, and retarded my exhaust cam -4 on skunk stage 2 cams and when vtec opens, i noticed a change of tone from my engine, i also noticed some power gains but my car keept shutting off so i set it back at +2,-2 now i hear ticking noises, my car shakes at idle and its running rough!! would a valve adjustment fix this or is my engine damaged?? my valves are ferra stainless steel i heard they are very strong i’m just hoping a simple valve adjustment will fix the problem… has this happened to anybody?? please reply TIA
… To give you a clue… I have JE 12:1 pistons and stock valves… my intake cam slipped off over 30 degrees from TDC… and nothing ever touched… Just did a comp. check tonight as a matter of fact.
So… If your engine go screwed up… only thing I can think of is ya overlapped them too much and the valves hit each-other… I suppose that’s possible ![]()
Also, timing will make your engine act VERY differently.

Yes, they can still bend. You need to do a comp test.
next time you adjust your cam gears it is a good idea to rotate the motor around at least 7 to 10 times to make sure nothing hits.

they can definitely bend. if the piston and a valve come in contact something has to give way…and considering the strength of the piston/rod/crank its gonna be the valve.
