can't find amber paint

I want to paing my bumber lights amber but I can’t find the right paint. I’ve done a search and seen a couple suggested colors but I haven’t seen anything close and I’ve been to a few big hobby/craft places around here. I’ve asked at the shops and they don’t know what I’m talking about. Anyone know exact names of good colors? Brands of the paints? Names of the shops?

Go to a hobby store and ask for “turn signal amber” or just ask for a translucent orange color that you think will look good. HTH

i just did mine this last weekend. the one i got is from Tamiya. it’s in a small bottle…not a spray can. you’ll need to get a foam brush to put it on also…HTH by the way it’s tranparent orange.

92-93 orange bumper turn signals

I went to my local craft shop and bought Krylon orange Stained
Glass paint, it worked great let me know if want pictures…

Hope that helps! , Andy

Yes, I want pics if you can, thanks

i used stained glass paint…

I just did mine tonight.

I bought a small bottle of the Tamiya Clear Orange paint and there was enough in it to do 3 coats on each lens…

Can’t wait to see what it looks like in the day…

Now all I have to do is the dual filament bulb thing…

Tamiya Clear Orange here. (but it’s kind of a pain to paint, compared to spray paint)

I didn’t find it that hard to paint, although I found that the edges didn’t seem to be as ‘amber’ as the rest of the lens…but for less than $4.00, who’s complaining!!!

yeah not really “hard”, but just requires alot more coats to get it as orange as my pic above…

really? one coat makes it a barely noticilbe yellow… do you go over it quite a few times on each coat?

It was one of those small, small bottles and I think that the foam brush soaked more of it up than I actually got on the lens!

yes i did, i deeped and went over it twice with each dip, there’s about 3 to 4 coats or even more on mines and i was still able to do 3 sets of lights

Well, i finally got to see my handy work in the daylight today and i must say that I’m not that handy!!!

I need to go out and buy another bottle of the paint as i want to make the lens a lot darker than it is right now (it is amber, but it look’s a bit thin on the sides cuz of the reflector in the middle)

ah well…

I might do this mod one day soon. Tamiya clear orange is the best choice. There color matches the JDM’s standard amber color signal. Tamiya also makes a clear red. I used to use them on some Tamiya and Hosagawa models back in the day.
