My Yokohama A520’s are really low on thread and need to replace them. The problem is that the guy at my local Yoko dealer tells me that the A520’s for 15" rims aren’t available anymore:sad:. I want a good set of tires for “spirited driving” and I can’t find a model that compares to the Yoko’s. I already checked out the Nitto 555R’s but they are a little high and I don’t care about drag racing, I want tires that let me take turns at higher than normal speeds and not get me killed. Any suggestions?
buy a set of 16" rims and put the tires on those. may cost a bit more than you wanted to but at least you will ahve the tires you need/want on your car.
I just got a full set of 16x7 rims and 215/40 Roadhugger tires - car handles like a dream now =) I’ve heard that dropping it a tad helps also, although I’m probably looking at a sport-suspension upgrade before I do that (or at the same time perhaps).
They made A520s in 15"?!
If you only want stick: Falken Azenis
If you want some stick and long life: Kumho 712s (or 711s, I forget the models)
If you want a stickier tire than the Azenis yet costing twice the price: BF Goodridge G Force TA KD (or KDW)
The Azenis do not last very long, so weigh that into your decision as well. Another good tire is the Bridgestone Potenza RE730 … that’s what I am going with when my Azenis burn off. BTW I am running 205/50-15, and the Falkens STICK like mad.
Other alternatives:
Pirelli P7000
Dunlop SP Sport 9000 (E-DA9 has these and loves them)
If you pick up the new Sport Compact Car August Issue, it has a whole section where it reviews 30 different tires. It contains alot of information to help you pick the tire that is right for you.

I didn’t know that either. I had some A520s on my old 17s, and loved the tires.
B17A: Sorry for posting on the general info board. My bad:(.
I’ll try to get the Sport Compact Car issue and check out the reviews. Thanks a lot for the help guys!
BTW: A520’s did come in 15" and get this, even 14". I have them right now on my set of steelies but will be upgrading to GSR 6 blade rims , God I love those rims!
Azenis don’t last long, but neither do A520’s.
the best tires you can get, but cost a little extra, are michelin pilot sports or bfgoodrich g-force t/a kdw. they are basically the same tire design, michelin has a better compound. my family has used michelins on our cars forever, they are damned good and last at least 50,000 miles…if you are good. i switched to bfg’s for my teg and they are good on the mountain roads, also quiet when i drove from texas to utah. many high-performance cars come standard with michelin/bfg tires. can’t beat them!!!
I don’t think they make Pilot SX’s in 15".
Can you still find Yokohama AVS Intermediates?
sorry, i forgot about the wheel size, if that is a factor, go with the bfg’s. when i was still at 14 inches, i used the bfg comp t/a. still good tires, lasted way too long. i’ve never been big on yokos or nittos.

This guy was happy with his Yokohama A520’s which I have and love.
Stay away from Nitto’s, especially the NT450’s. We use them on the back wheels when we feel like drifting.
So BFG’s, Dunlops and are good then. I’m used to my sticky A520’s so what should I look for in a tire (codes, numbers, etc.) to know how sitcky it is?
SE-37K: Since you already have A520’s and know how good they are, what would be your second choice for tires if you couldn’t find any Yoko’s available?
------Extremely Bad News-------
I sent an email to Yokohama asking about A520’s and this is what they answered:
“Yokohama has discontinued the A520. Thank you for contacting Yokohama Tire
Corporation.”
I am feeling  and  at the same time
Why would they discontinue this tire??
It’s just the best out there and it comes in second only when compared to Parada’s. Now what the hell am I supposed to do? :uhoh: I replied to them asking if they are planning on releasing a new tire that replaces the A520’s and comes for 15" rims. Let’s hope they do.
When it’s time to replace my tires, I think I’m going to use Parada Spec-2’s in 205/40-17.
For a 15" tire, check out:
Potenza S-03 Pole Position in 195/50-15
Dunlop SP Sport 9000 in 195/50-15
Many people are recommending the Azenis Tires and I’ve seen them at autocrosses. They seem to perform very well.
If you want some stick and long life: Kumho 712s (or 711s, I forget the models)
yes the ecsta 711’s, i got those, can’t beat the performance for $28 a tire! i got mine in 195/50/15
If you want the highest in Performance go with the Bridgestone S-03. If you want Great bang for the buck go with Azenis. The A520 will be similiar to the Azenis in dry and wet traction the S-03 will be equal in dry much better in the wet. Should also give you the longest life with the PP compound
