Capacitors??

ok im trying to price things…im planning on getting a 180 HO alternator, with a yellow top optima battery…ok now im at capacitors…i dnt understand them i just know i need and want one…whats the difference between 1 farad and 10 farads…is the lower the number the better or higher the number the better, because it seems some that are 1 farad are the most expensive but i cant tell if thats based on brand name thanks alot - DOFL-FAVA

the rule of thumb is .5 farads for every 500 watts:rockon:

With a 180A HO alternator you will probably not need the cap.

If you are running separate amps for high-pass and low-pass, run two power leads from the batt., one for the high-pass amp(s) and a 2nd one for the sub amp(s), and you should not need the cap, if current is still an issue, you can install a cap on the sub amp(s) only.
The current problems will be with the sub amp. 94

ive been out of the car audio scene for a hot minute, but what i did know back then was capacitors are only needed when they are needed. if i was you i would build your system first and see what kind of draw youre getting, those optima yellow tops are pretty badass batteries and i would see what happens with just a battery before you go spending extra money on something that will just end up wasting space.
