Ok guys, here we go. Its been about three months since the last time I asked for help and my problems back. So here we go.
My car won’t start consistantly. It delays on crank. You turn the key to start and all you hear is the fuel pump kick on, lights dim, and the starter solenoid click. I’ve had this problem off and on now for a year and a half. When it finally engages it will start fine. Then I can start it like 5 - 8 times before the whole process happens again. Here’s the info… Fuelpump is new and engages. Fuel Pump Relay is replaced. Starter is getting voltage and is also brand new as well as bench tested. Distr. cap, rotor new, igniter new, plugs, wires, and coil new. Tried 2 different batteries, both are good. Battery charges when car does start. It is an automatic. Has about 118,000 miles on it. And is mildy modified. I’ve had enough of this problem so any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks much. -Dave
Unless i didnt see it in your list of replaced parts, but have you checked the alternator? that could be the culprit… HTH

have you replaced the starter solenoid itself?
i had a problem like it before where the started just clicked and it was inside the solenoid where one of the copper pieces the plunger makes contact with had worn off and i had to make a new one out of copper tubing.
It’s an automatic you say? Safety neutral switch maybe? Try wiggling your shift lever if it doesn’t start and see if that helps. Otherwise, yes I would also say it sounds like a starter solenoid, but if you’ve replaced & bench tested the starter, you’ve probably changed the solenoid too.
yeah i replaced the solenoid too…f’n crazy problem man. I really don’t know what to do
