car died and wont start!!

Any suggestions? I was coming around a corner, put the clutch in to downshift and the car shut off. So I coasted to the curb and tried to start it. It turns over but wont start. Would this be an ignition problem? How could I check that my spark plugs are getting good spark? I know a little about cars but hopefully some of you will be a little more knowledgeble and can help me out so I really apprectiate all of you helping me out. Thanks!

Sounds like an igniter (aka ignition control module) to me. if you don’t have any spark that is. if you have a manual, it will have procedures to check different ignition components. by the way, if it is the igniter, replace it with a honda one from the dealership or www.acuraautomotiveparts.net they will last longer

Try your distributor cap and coil… I’ve had that happen to me twice now… the car just dies, turnsover but won’t start… ya… just had that happen on Tuesday… on an overpass… morning rush hour traffic… ya… try your dist.

To check if your getting spark, remove 1 sparkplug wire at a time and put it about an inch away from a good ground(like the powersteering bracket) Have someone crank the car, if your getting spark, you will see the ARC across the splugwire. If not, trace backwards from there, to your COIL or IGNITOR or FI main Relay. If you are getting spark, could be your FUEL system. Good Luck.

could be the timing belt snapped or Distributer / igniter not working properly.

I had this same problem.

I just replaced my rotor and ICM with new parts (well, out of a 98 EX civic that tested fine), and still no spark. Please help, i’m gettin desperate.

Same thing happened to me… i checked it out…

turned out it was the ignition coil. so get that checked, it could be your problem

110% it’s the ignitor, if it cranks and doesn’t start. Honda’s are well known for this problem. Happened to me once, a friend of mine twice, and a my dad once. Head down to you local junk yard and pull it off a b-series motor (?) I dunno if other Honda motors will work as well but I pulled mines off a D15 and it started fine…

i tested the coil first thing. tested 100% within spec (actually right dead-on) so I know it isn’t that. I’m going to hit up honda and get a new cap/rotor; if it doesn’t work they told me they’ll take it back ( i’ve become friends with the head of parts so it’s all good )
