I am a newbie on this board but not on posting so of course I searched the site first. I got as far back as august last year and stopped. Here goes the problem. I had turned on my teg for 3-5 minutes. This was the first time I turned it on all week. I was sitting in it letting it warm up and all of a sudden it started to bog and the rpms went down to about .5 and up again to 1 and so on. Then I pressed the gas pedal and it had no effect. It shut off after 30 seconds of bogging. Now the car won’t start and I hear a sort of a pop in the muffler when I try to start it. It does turn over but does not turn on. I checked each spark plug wire with a spark plug and I’m getting spark from all of them. I also had my girlfriend turn the key to the on position and heard sort of a hissing, which would mean fuel pump is on. I removed the oil cap and looked with a flashlight as my gf tried to turn on the car and saw the camshafts rotating. So I have spark, gas, and it’s not the timing belt. Have I missed something? Sorry for the long post but I’ve tried to describe the situation the best possible so maybe someone could help me. Thanx in advance.
Check the ignitor in the distributor…
Did you check the injectors? I’m not 100% about how actually do that, but I don’t think some of that injector cleaner could hurt. My .02
Hey there I had the exact problem this weekend. I just had a new distributor put in on friday and the problem happened on saturday. When I took the car in to get checked (at a different mechanic) the guy told me that the distributor was installed poorly. He went on to say that the distributor housing was messed up or something which acts as a ground. I don’t know how true this is but he fixed it, $130, works fine now.
So you should check your distributor.?
Did you try to move the flat head screw on top of the throttle body? My friend had the same problem with his 92 LS and we just adjusted that and it worked fine. This only happens when it is at idle right? other than that you can drive it. Try to put it idle wit a lil gas to see if it dies.
