was going for a drive and at the light my car died i thought i killed it… so clutched in and cranked the car … acc lights works the car cranks… but nothing… i’m thinking its the alternator but would like some feed back…

If the car cranks fine, it’s prolly not the alternator. Probably the Coil or Ignitor. Check to see if you have some spark at the plugs… this is gonna tell a lot… The timing belt is fine right?
Could also be the fuel pump or fuel pump relay. I’d probably bet it’s in the distributor. These things had pretty weak ignition systems. You can get a good rebuilt unit for about $200 exchange and slap it in to see if it works.
