Car is having trouble starting. Battery or Alternator?

I agree, replacing all that crap is a lot of money, but better I catch it and take care of it now than having problems on the road.

The ride is actually a lot more smooth, and shifts seem a lot less bumpy. Not sure if its placebo but whatever.

The car starts like a dream too with little to no sputtering, just clutch in, turn key, and its going.

How many miles are on your car? I’m wondering how my fuel pump is…also as far as the alternator, when mine went I heard a loud whine while driving and then the battery light came on and the battery would slowly die, so you’d know when it was going.

My car has 180,000 on it. Yeah I know…

I didn’t hear any whines or anything

Morrasso-- Just wanted to get an update on your starting problem. So did you Fuel pump fix your problem. Has it been starting up fine lately?

No it hasnt COMPLETELY fixed the problem.

It starts, but sometimes it takes a while to have it turn over.

I really don’t know what the problem is. When the pump was first replaced, it started up great, for about 3 days, now it just isnt what it was before.

Why dont you change your alternator and Battery? Maybe that’ll fix it. You just wasted $400.

correct me if im wrong but if the alternator doesnt work properly doesnt the battery light stay on. i remember the alternator belt broke on me one time and i started the car, it started but the battery light stayed on while my car was running.

i say get a new battery or atleast borrow one from a nother car and see

hahahahahhhahahhaha damn, what a waste of 500 bux.
I told you before you did that what your problem was…
Your $500 mechanic prolly just put your battery on a good charger or floater or something just to make it last a couple days longer… do you have a volt meter? if not go buy a 10$ walmart one. check your voltage at your battery, then with it running, and then running with all the accsesories on, it should still be higher that the charge with engine not running. post your results, my alternator slowly died and confused me alot, not $500 confused, but you get it…
post your results!!! we will help you

It wasnt a waste of 500 bucks.

Granted the price was a lot, I really did need a new fuel pump.

Plus I got my plugs in and my filter changed. I’m gonna check and see how another battery works…

What mechanic are you going to? Finding an honest mechanic in Charlotte is pretty much impossible.

wasnt a waste huh? so you prolly have some autozone fuel pump instead of the honda one that was in there, im sure it was soooo much better, why did you need a new one again?

plugs takes me about 1 minute per plug and another minute for itching my nuts, so thats 5 mins total, fuel filter, mayyyyybe 15…
I would of bought a fat ounce of cronic for that price… or another car

Took me awhile to find this thread again. I need an update morrasso, Did you replace the battery or alternator? And did that fix your starting problem?
I’m asking because I have a starting problem on my teg as well. But its not too serious. Mine doesn’t start ONLY when I haven’t started it for at least 2 days. I changed my battery to an Optima battery and at times it still wouldn’t start after leaving it for a couple days in the garage. I’m thinking its my alternator. I just don’t have the money yet and the time.

does your car idle high? or making a high pitched whining noise? Believe it or not the last four Hondas I have owned have ALL had bad alternators when I got them. I never had problems starting them though…weird.

No Bacardibreezer, Idle runs stock idle. And I don’t hear any weird noises.

you my have a current withdraw when the car is off. It slowly draws current when your car is off. you can test amprage when the car is off. between battery cable and battery post. Forgot what the amprage is to be at. You need to look that up. and if it is high than pull one fuse out at a time and you find the area that has a withdrawl. Radio lights ect…

^^^like he said, theres probably a draw somewhere, after this happened to me all winter long last year, i realized that when i left the defrost switch on it kept running when the car was off, Im not sure where to start looking to fix that but i started with turning the switch off when i got out of the car :giggle: not saying this is your problem but sounds like a draw to me

91akira, don’t know if you fixed you problem or not. But it’s def. your starter that needs to be replaced. L8ter man

No I haven’t. I have a thread thats still going on at the electical section under " Do I have a current withdraw" So far it looks to be my starter sololiod.

But tell me your opinion why its my starter? Need feedback
