hey i just lowered my car and usually the rear bushings are bad, but apparently the mechanic said they’re still good, then afterwards after he installed it my rear right side tire became messed up. like you can move back and forth and you hear this clunk. i am going to replace it but my ride is SUPER STIFF i just want to know if thats wat plays a factor , or just my cheap ass coilovers?
Well it would help to tell us what kind of coil overs you used, if you are on stock shocks or not, and how low you are.
Just telling us it is too stiff without giving us any type of setup information is useless.
kyb gr2’s with ebay coilovers…=( the rear wasn’t dropped apparently it was as low as the front if not even lower than my front and…the front was dropped 2"
key mistake… ebay coilovers
and GR2’s are pretty much just stock replacements
yeah i knew the ebay coilovers were bad, but my friend had a set on his billsteins and they seem to ride pretty good, considering he is lowered about 3.25". but the thing is that the front of my car does not take bumps that bad, its actually pretty good. My main problem is that the rear cannot handle anything…its really really STIFF. I already spent another 250 on gettin new rear upper control arms from acura installed…and that really didn’t do much. i just dont get why my rear can’t take any bumbs what so ever. It was also like this with my stock suspension…so i am very unsure about it since i am new to suspension. any help would be great…thank you
Just get some sportlines since you already have the gr2s. You could go with some good coilovers like GCs but you would have to upgrade your shocks.
so your saying gr2’s don’t go well with ground controls? ahhh…i thought they go well with almost any set up? or would my ride still be too stiff? because i thought you could use ground controls with stock set up and, since this is pretty much a ‘stock replacement’ wouldn’t still be good?
If your stock setup is already being sorta stiff then perhaps you can get a lower rating pair of springs/coilovers for the rear?
I would say something like 140-190lbs each. Also make sure yoru tire pressure is at 29-32max cold air check it in the morning. Anything higher than 32 psi you’re going to have a stiff ride and bumps and on top of that with the ebay coilover stiffening its not a good combo either.
Most time people have it set to 35psi with out knowing that heat expands it and from 35 psi after driving for awhile it may go up as high as 44-55psi depending on condition of driving and weather outside too.
For me anything higher than 32 psi would just risking your tires to pot holes, heat expands lead to blown tires. Also the comfy feeling is a little bumpy but the good is better gas mileage but dont over do it.
Notice for our cars most time tires max psi rating are 44-50max for most brand company tires.
alright i will check my tire pressure today, thank you. So then would ground controls be good? or are the omni’s coilovers any good? the thing is, this is my daily driver and i am a student so i need this car all year round…so in summer i wanna be able to drop it and raise it when winter comes.
Yeah check your tires pressure when its cold and see what the reading is.
Let us know how everything goes.
As for the coilover, if u had to choose from either omni or ground control i would say go with GC but both will work but is reall also depends on the type of shocks you get.
the tire pressure is 32. every day that i drive my car it seems to get a little better (SLIGHTLY). is there any other explanation why my rear is very stiff and sensitive to shitty roads? has anyone experienced this before? so ground controls won’t work well with my gr2’s? i don’t plan to spend too much on suspension because i want to get my car repainted soon
Dont need to spend so much on it, but just know if u lower more than 1.5 inches your gr2 wont last long. It all depends on how u drive and what kinda road you drive on daily. But I would say gr2 and GC or some good decent brand coilover should do the trick if u are on a budget that is and i understand how hard it is.
I’m not kidding you about going more than 1.5inch probably get away with 1.8inch with gr2 on GC more then 8 months. Again depend on driving habit and road conditions.
Now I forgot to ask u if u had low profile series tires?
If its 35-40 series thin you will have such a rough stiff ride when u hit bumps. I personally hate it on my other car GSR. Got any pictures of the car and or the rear shock/GC setup?
well i am lowered about 2.25" right now in the front, but the front is really good, just my rear is messed up, and thats only lowered not even an inch. well im not exactly sure if they are low profile tires, i believe they are…on stock alloys. Bridgestone Eager tires. i will take pictures tomorrow before work if i get the chance.
I dont know what to say if you plan to go that much lower on the GR-2 later on. It will kill your shocks quickly though. Yea take pictures and keep us updated. Low profile tires are vry thin so perhaps on stock alloy i believe its 50 series at least and that fine.
well here are some quick snaps i took…yeah i need paint job and sideskirts AND rims =D maybe when i hit the jackpot. here’s how i’m riding right now…its 2.25" i didn’t take any shots of my suspension because i didn’t feel like taking off my tires yet…maybe tm?
whoa a mugen replica lip!! was the lip suspose to be for an EG civic? you had to do some shaving on the lip to get it to fit properly?
Well it was from my buddy’s 98 Civic, not much cutting just a little in upper part of the lip that goes against ur bumper. It’s about 1.5" short…if you have an extra lip lying around just cut off the sides of that and bondo it to the mugen replica lip paint it and there you go. sorry for replying so late
sorry to jack this thread,
but whats the best shocks that matches the skunk2 coilovers?
