Car not starting. neutral safety switch? main fuel relay? **SEARCHED BUT HAVE ??'s**

okay, i did a search and found some useful information, but i do have questions regarding what i found. now i searched for information about the neutral safety switch and after reading through the “Car won’t start-Look Here” thread, i found this regarding the main fuel relay.

well, my question is as follows. IF it is the main fuel relay’s soldered connections that are faulty, will the car start AT ALL even if its not fixed.

for example, lets just say it IS the MFR, and the car won’t start. i dont have time to fix it, but come out later on to try and mess with it, but the car actually starts.

is it possible that it is STILL the MFR? or if the MFR is bad, would it simply NOT START at all until its fixed?

next, regarding the neutral safety switch I initially searched.
if it IS the neutral safety switch, where exactly on the clutch pedal is it located? does someone have a pic of it, or have a pic from a helms/haynes manual showing its location please? i couldn’t find anything regarding that, and i’ve been searching for some time. and if it IS the neutral safety switch, how can i go about fixing it? a friend of mine put a remote starter on his car (Manual Transmission) and he bypassed the *NSS. are there any downsides to doing this, i know the possibility of starting the car without the clutch could cause it to jump if its in gear, BUT i’m not gonna be putting in a remote starter AND absolutely NO ONE but me drives the car, ever. no one moves the car for me etc. so i don’t have to worry about someone else parking it in gear. but if i have to take it to a shop and someone else drives the car in and out of the shop stall, i won’t start the car until i check if its in neutral. so i am VERY cautious when it comes to starting my car after a shop worker has been in my car. so at least THAT aspect is covered. but are there any other problems i might run into by bypassing the *NSS? i read in a thread i found about it that someone said its illegal? is this true?

anyway, thanks for the help. i appreciate all the help i can get. my car won’t start for nothing right now, don’t have anyone to help push start the car and i don’t have anyone that can give me a ride to work because everyone i know that could possibly help out are already at work, or are out of town.

muhfuggers.

thanks for the help.

update

i went outside, and found the neutral safety switch. and the main fuel relay. but before i went to take anything out, or start splicing wires. i decided to try and start the car.

didn’t work.
well, i went inside and got this mini-fan that my wife payed 99cents for and decided to cool down the main fuel relay (not sure if it would do anything at all)
anyway, i used the mini fan (which by the way, is the best dollar she ever spent lol) for about 2 minutes. tried to start the car. 1st try, nothing. 2nd try, nothing… wait a minute, i hear a click and the the car turns over and starts.
so i shut the car off, and restart it 3 times successfully. now its starting up fine. :wtf: could it be??

any idea what it could be with this new information? because this starting problem happens at random. some times, it will start up fine, and stay that way for a couple weeks. but then, somedays, it will start up fine in the mornings but won’t start later in the day

i want to get this fixed, but i’m not sure what the hell it could be

:bump:

Hey the part where you said sometimes it doesn’t start? I have that same problem and I’m thinking its the MFR from my search. I haven’t attempted the teg tip trick yet.

Why don’t you try doing the MFR thing and tell me if that works. Hope that’ll work.

the problem you are having is with the main fuel rely…if by holding a mini fan up to the MFR for 2 mins then it starts to work then its most def your main fuel relay…it is not illegal exactly to have the neutral safty switch bypassed its illegal for a shop to do it for you (dont quote me on that because im not 100% sure but they can be held responsible for any accidents that may happen because the clutch switch was bypassed). you can do it at home if you like but a shop shouldnt do it for cars with manual transmissions.

one big thing that should help you determin btw the neutral safty switch and the main fuel relay is that if its the main fuel rely then your car will crank but not start…but if it was your neutral safty switch then your car wouldnt even get the chance to crank.

a down fall of bypass of the safter switch is that you cannot use the clutch lock and it simply maks your car easier to be stolen. (ie they dont need to depress your clutch and can start your car and drive your car away with out using a clutch). if you dont have a clutch lock then i wouldnt really worry about it but if you have the clutch lock you will just be wasting your money on that lock. you can look at the clutch switch as a security feature its also a safty feature.

it shouldnt be your clutch bypass either try the teg tip or just get another relay (i kno it cost hella money but what OEM part from the dealer is cheap? hahaha)

aite peace GL with ur car

reason y it works sometimes and not others its mainly due to temperatur changes…it usually happens to me during spring time and summer but i find it doesnt happen during winter and fall so i just learn to live with it…unless it gets really bad…i just wait like 30 seconds then bam it stright right up on a dime…no waiting nothing… maybe i can live with that and its not as serious as your problem but it will get there eventually…

aite peace
