Car running on constant 12v. Details Inside.

Hi guys,

I’m trying to figure out some electrical phenomenon with my car…Long story short my MFR or main fuel relay went bad when the car suddenly stopped on its own while parking. Initially thought it was the ECU but it ended up being the MFR. A mechanic bypassed it by creating a loop via inserting some wires with a spade crimped into the mfr sockets. He said the car will be running on constant 12v…

Now, I haven’t gotten around to getting a new MFR yet. But after 2 weeks I’ve noticed that some of my electronics were not functioning properly…? One instance my right headlight and fog light went out; this was never the case. I’ve checked ALL the fuses and they were good.

Another interesting case that happened was the ECU fuse was blown as well. Here’s the trippy part. I turn the car on with the LOOPED MFR and replaced the ECU FUSE. Later, I take the keys out and the car is STILL RUNNING! Only when I took that fuse out the car shuts down.

So is this looped MFR causing my car to ground and/or short the stuff mentioned on the car??? I’m really afraid that it’ll eventually cause all the small electronics in and outside the car to not function…

p.s. my battery is still good too.

Installing a “loop” on anything should only be a temp. measure, however I can not see how it is causing the problem, [blown fuse] unless the load that is looped is the problem.

I would need to know what your mechanic “looped” at the PGM-FI Main Relay. 94

FCM,

so I just looked at the mfr and the way it was “looped” the mechanic had the ghetto fab’d wires sticking into socket 4, 5, and 7 .

I just replaced the MFR with the ecu fuse in and the car starts up right away now.

But the problem still remains: My turn signal lights DO NOT work. Passenger side fog light does not work. Passenger side headlight on low beam does not work. Both bulbs on those sides are in good condition. I have tested them by replacing the bulbs but the problem still exists. The intermittent on the wipers does not work. My car does not chime anymore when I have keys in ignition. Hazards work and makes a clicking noise but light does not appear on both driver and passenger turn signals.

as an update all the fuses are good. I have not ran a DMM on the switches yet. I’ve done some research on the ICU as it may seem to be the culprit of problem but I can’t really see how that would cause the sudden failure in some of headlight/turn signal problems. Am I possibly shorting or grounding something? Any suggestions? i apologize ahead of time for the long post.

OK, the car kept running, [when PGM-FI Main Relay was looped and “ECU” fuse was replaced] because power was back feeding" from #7, [12V consrtant] to #5, [12V ign.].

The above will nothing to do with the lights, intermittent wipers or chimes , for wipers and chimes and front side markers the problem will be the ICU or power to it.
Have you checked all the fuses, not just eye ball them, but tested them properly?

Is it just the front signal lights, [bumper and front side markers] that do not work or do the rear ones also not work?
Do the cluster signal light indicators work?
Do the hazard lights work?

If it is only the front lights that are not working, I would check the head light/ signal light grounds. 94

Yeah like you stated I’m gonna go ahead and stick a dmm and check for any running voltage across these fuses. I swear all these fuses are good but not until I test them
out properly. As for the fuse what am I measuring exactly? Resistance?

problem still remains. :frowning:
