Car Shakes When Put In Gear

This is whats happening,
Ill be driving along and everything is fine and i’ll go to shift into the next gear and as soon as I come off the clutch the whole car starts shaking. The dash, the steering wheel, the seats, the shifter, the entire car shakes. When I throw it back into neutral the shaking stops. I can then put it back into the same gear as before and it doesn’t shake anymore. It only does this randomly, doesn’t do it unless i’m moving, and it’s only done it when i’ve selected 2nd, 4th, and 5th. It’s also started shaking while I was driving along in 4th and right before I went to push the clutch in to throw it back to neutral the shaking stopped. It doesn’t feel like an axle cause I’ve had that problem before. The axle felt like one side of the car was “bobbing” up and down. This feels like the entire car is about to shake itself apart. I’ve checked my motor mounts and all are good. To me it seems like something with the transmission because when I throw it back to neutral the shaking stops. I’ve tried to show people but it never does it when I need it to, just randomly when it wants.
One thing I noticed is that a few weeks ago I adjusted the clutch cable so it would engage closer to the floor and after I did that this shaking thing started. It never did this before I adjusted the cable. It didn’t start shaking right after I adjusted the cable but it for sure never did it before so maybe that has something to do with it.
The transmission is a hydro civic si (s4c), the motor is a b16a
Any help guys would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Definitely sounds like a clutch-engagement issue. Either re-adjust the cable, or think about the age of the clutch disc itself… It may be shot. Clutch ‘chatter’ happens when they’re glazed and/or going out.

Alright i’ll do that later today. I’ll adjust it back up a little bit and see if it still does it. I have no idea how old the clutch is, I’ve had the car for about a year and half and haven’t had to replace it so it could still be the original stock one for all I know

Do you notice any slipping at higher revs or from a stop? No transmission grinds?

Nope, Pulls fine, shifts great at 8k and no grinds in any gear

Id say clutch chatter.posibly warped clutch disc, flywheel, not engaging smoothly…if thats all good id say maybe tranny mountt??

Well I ended up being busy today so I haven’t had time to readjust the cable. The clutch could be 10 years old for all I know but me and several other people at our car meet last night checked my tranny mount and it’s perfect, it’s a Hasport mount thats only a couple of years old. I’m starting to think it’s something to do with the clutch or the flywheel =[ I’ll make sure I readjust the cable tomorrow and let you guys know if it made any difference. Either way everyone i’ve talked to is making it sound like my clutch is one it’s way out

I think I found out whats going on. This link has a very short description of it but it sums it up perfectly. ( Click on #1) http://www.exedy-aftermarket.com/english/default/clutch/index/id/01-01/

lift up the car and loook at that clutchh, flywheel homie!!!

…yea I don’t have the equipment to take my tranny off

I just thought about something. If it’s the clutch/flywheel why doesn’t it shake all the time? why does it only do it every once in awhile? and why can I still chirp second is the clutch is bad?

Alright I got it explained to me. My flywheel is whats warped caused by excessive heat. So I’m gonna order an Exedy oe kit + Exedy lightweight flywheel. Hopefully I don’t have this problem again

Lightened flywheel causes less damper for the crankshaft, so you should actually be expecting more vibration at low RPMs (albeit it’d be more predictable than your current situation)

Did the flywheel solve the problem completely?

“The axle felt like one side of the car was “bobbing” up and down.”

Do you feel that bobbing as you are slowing down almost coming to a stop? I swear I feel that in my passenger side as I am stopping right around 15 and lower mph. It happens in gear or neutral the same.

i have that same problem wen slowing down i get that bopping feeling too…what can it be??

I would love to know. I’d say axle, but it only happens while slowing down. The only other thing I can think is that something is bent, but no idea on how to figure out what.

i thought it would be the axle cuz wen it goes bad it starts to the clicking sound …but how would it get bent??

Not a bent axle, just another suspension component like upper or lower control arm. it’s one annoying problem tho. Not to mention it’s on the side where everything is new.

i replace the upper contol arms with skunk2 n replaced the the bottom ball joints to … can it be the end linkson the sway bar??
