While driving my car shuts off like it ran out of gas but it still has power. When it dies I can sit for 10 minutes and it will start again. Before it does it it kinda sputters. I have asked a couple people what it could be and I’ve been told main relay, fuel pump and alternator. Any suggestions? I’m stumpted
Could be a number of things.
Ignitor, ignition coil, MFR, ignition switch…
when you try and restart the car immediately after, do the dash lights illuminate? or does it start and then die immediately after the key is dropped to the II position?
the problem could be caused by a number of culprits. try narrowing it down by checking for fuel and spark during the window that the problem occurs
The lights and everything works. You can hear the fuel pump kick on and it will crank over but will just not start
check for spark then-when the problem occurs
It’s not getting spark when it happens
Take and have your distributor thoroughly checked component by component.
Most of the time it is either a bad Ignition Module or Ignition Coil. Also a bad ECU can cause no spark as well. Have it tested if the distributor turns out good.
same thing happend to my carr…it was the ignitor n coil…but i changed the fuel filter n main relay for the heck of it
same thing happened to me too. just died without warning and would not turn over. Distributor cap and rotor were rotted. In addition, I replaced the coil for good measure ,and the spark plugs since they were completely black after replacing all the above parts.
