I want to Thank all of you in advance for any help you might be able to give me.
I own a 93 gs with B16 swap. I was just cruising running some errands when all of a sudden my car just completely shuts down. Unfortunately I am no stranger to this. My car then refuses to start. Get her towed back to my house for further diagnosis. Find a faulty FPR. I get my part, get correct fuel pressure, start my car and she runs fine.....for 45 seconds. Then I cant get it to start. All lights on dash bright as ever, correct voltage from battery, all fuses checked. sounds like it wants to start, starter doing its job, new plugs, plug wires, fuel sender operational, grounds look in order, brand new distributor, brand new fuel main relay, fuel pump operational...... After numerous times of trying to crank, I notice white smoke from intake??? I disconnect the intake, bust out the old shop vac, and remove all smoke from intake manifold. For the hell of it I try to crank it up, starts no problem, idiling beautifully gives me a good 3 1/2 minutes then dies again. What the hell? Now we've come full circle and car rotates but will not start. If anyone has seen anything like this please help. Ive searched, please dont tell me to search. If you know of a thread please post link. THANK-YOU all G2 lovers
Kinda sounds like the ignitor/ignition coil to me. Mine shut down going up the freeway, wouldn’t start, and upon cranking, i noticed the white smoke also. Might want to check them too.
I will test these tommorrow (frustrated)…distributor only 2 1/2 weeks old. What would cause either of these things to fail?
Well heres an update…after a weekend of diagnosis, I ve checked distributor (ICM, igniter, ignition coil) and everything is fine, verified that I have spark in all four cylinders and fuel reaching fuel rail. I checked grounds, fuel pressure is good WTF? I was able to start it two more times over the weekend. Both times running for about 3 1/2 minutes. Thats three starts total, all at 3 1/2 minutes??? until she just dies. Could this be an electrical issue? Sometimes it will start and immediately die but, for the most part it will just rotate and not start. Somebody please help. Has this never happened to anyone before? Can a fuel pump maintain pressure and not supply enough fuel? Is there a relay I dont know about that has anything to do with spark? Also, no check engine light. Feedback PLEASE.
This is like some weird forum that I’m trapped in all by myself…and my car still isnt running. This sucks.
I have a 90’ RS . Sounds like the same exact problem I had. Spent soo much time on it. Changed distributor caps, changed spark plugs, ignition wires…all kinds of stuff. Finally found out that it was the ( Main Relay Switch ) look into that. Mine was under the driver side of the dash… i still have it and it still smells like burnt popcorn.
so check that out if you want to . shouldnt be hard to take out and just check it , if you want to.
we also check the intake manifold, and the fuel pump. neither one of those. after we replaced to Main Relay, it ran fine, still is running fine. that part cost about 40-60. just make sure you get the right ,one , if thats what you need.
