Old car smell? The only smell that ever lingered was the time I got the inside wet. And the only way to get that out is to air it out. Maybe you should do a thorough cleaning … removing seats especially.

your in Daytona?

wzup boss…when i got my teg it reeked of rubber cement. To kill the odor i left all windows open when the car was parked in drive way during the day and whenever i left all windows closed i had a box of baking soda inside. killed the smell in a little over a week. HTH

I was getting a smell from water leaking in under the dash. Make sure your passenger side floor isn’t wet after a heavy rain.)I think there’s a teg tip on fixing this)
For bad smells, I open the windows all the way and the sunroof. Put some of those air fresheners in that slide into your air vents, turn the vents on to hi setting (fresh air, not rec) and run go for a long hard drive on the highway.

yep definitely baking soda. Hell pull out the seats, and cover all the carpets and seats with the stuff, wait and vaccum. Then just carry some around in a tupperware container or the like.

Our cars are notorious for smelling like piss. Literally like wet moist piss!

Mold forms in the air ducts and stinks up the car, the smell get into the carpet and seats.

The cure: Lysol in the vents. There’s a procedure and all.
Spray into the cowling at bottom of outside windsheild .

Car lots have bottles of ‘new car smell’ that they use when they get trade ins. the public isnt supposed to know that smell comes in a bottle and it isnt for sale but maybe if your nice theyll use it on your car for u.

A friend of mine used the new car smelling stuff at the rental dealership he works as. They stopped using it because there was a recall. Something about the chemicals making people sick. Oh well, the inside of my car was flooded last winter. Air it outside when it’s hot, and box it in with baking soda at night. It works really well.

My ex-girlfriend’s kid puked all over my car and the only thing that got the smell out was Arm & Hammer Baking soda.

I poured some onto the affected areas and let it sit for a few days and the oder was gone.

By the way if you want a REALLY quick fix, you can drop a bar of soap into the microwave for 30 seconds or so and put it in the car. Close all the windows. After about 5 minutes it’ll smell like Irish Spring ! :stuck_out_tongue:

I can’t believe all these things I’m hearing. Ok guys… this is simple. Mildew builds up at the condenser infront of the rad. The deep fins and moist environment make a perfect breeding ground – it’s then pulled into the vents and voila… into the interior. There’s hope!!

Get a spray bottle of about 80% warm water and 20% bleach (you can put a squirt of simple green in also). Anyway… start the car and put the AC on high (keep it on fresh not recirc). Now… go outside right between the headlight but a little lower down (right infront of the condenser). Spray several shots of a fine mist into the condenser fins (the vac. should ‘pull’ most of this mist into the interior also). After maybe 5-10 minutes of this, shut the car off and then pop the hood. Gently squirt the remainder of the solution all over the condenser fins and radiator also if it’s mildew-riden. Let this sit for maybe 30min. and then get a very slow stream of water from a hose and carefully rinse it all away.

Run the car again for maybe 15min and then you should be smelling great and your problems should be over. There’s a trick to avoid this also… When you are almost home and using the AC, put it on max (fresh) for a few minutes (you will usually see the mist come out of the vents – this mist would have been attached to mildew spores if you didn’t get it out of there like the dilligent teg owners you are…

This method has worked with every car I have tried it with and ever since I have done this I have never had the nasty mildew smell in any of my vehicles. As a side note, make sure that the drain tube for your AC under your car isn’t plugged up also.

I’ve been pondering this problem for a few months now. I’ve narrowed the stink down to two culprits. Mold/ dirt in the vents and a rotten sunroof shade.

To combat the smell I keep Bounce dryer sheets in the car(under the seats and in the spare tire well). They work fantastically!

But to solve the problem, I plan on cleaning the vents out and replacing the sunroof shade. When I have time.

piss from where the f?

My car previous owner had dogs, so I think the dogs pissed and laid a big one somewhere I can’t find. Every warm day I get in and I am like, Ugh, this stinks. I live in an area where i haven’t had to use a/c for 3 months.

Anyway, car was very moist inside, as P.O. steam cleaned interior, but I can’t find a wet trunk or pass floor.

So, I deduce that the vents are the culprits and will try to do something with them.

Until then, I am keeping my eye out for a big yellow stain or brown!

What if the A/C system is not working at all, or, in some models, doens’t exist?

How/where would we spray the bleach/water mixture to get rid of this smell? My A/C doesn’t work anymore… so should I still jus spray the hell outof the A/C condensor area, and try the Lysol-in-the-cowling thing?

Thanks
