Car turns off out of the no where

Ok so my car when is in idle it turns off dont know why. Then when i go to turn it back all it doese is crank and after the third try and holding the key for a while itll turn on.

Ok so i have a 92 integra gs with a jdm b16a i just changed the timing belt, tensioner, seals, waterpump, spark plugs, wires, distrinutor o ring, distributor rotor.
I was thinking maybe main relay or fuel pump. Need help thnx guys

??? any help is good help

Was the ignitor replaced?

sounds like ur timing is off or a spark related issue…u should have a code set

as mentioned, check for codes.
if no codes are present, install a fuel pressure gauge. start the car. watch the needle on the gauge carefully. if the needle drops out before the car stalls, you have a fuel related issue. if not, it’s likely spark related.
this will point you on the right track to further narrow down and isolate the problem

ok so i dont have any codes but i did buy a fuel pressure gauge yesterday and when my car turned off the gauge dropped out and whent to crank a few times and the needle stayed at 0 but on the last time i opened the switch and it went up to 40 on the gauge. So i wanna sya its the main relay?I ima switch it with my friends today see what happenes.

ill second that. MFR sounds like a very likely culprit at this time.

Funny I came around this thread just 4 days after I fix this issue in my car. Try to do some tests and inspection. I went from checking the distributor and the ignition module and the coil. At the end I realized it was the MFR. My car would turn off after some driving on the fwy and stop on red lights regardless if the weather was hot or cold which is why some people come to the conclusion of a bad MFR. My car would start fine hot or cold days but would turn off after some mnts driving. I use to think that my MFR was fine just because it would click during startup. 4 days so far and the problem is gone.

Also don’t forget that our cars are very vulnerable to have a defective ignition switch. So my two bets are definitely a bad MFR or a bad ignition switch. Do yourself a favor and start there.

I would almost put money on it your ICM, or Ignition Control Module is having intermittent failure.
Take it out and have it tested.

I don’t think the main fuel relay just shuts off the car while idling. For a bad relay, it just cranks and not start. And highly dought it’s the ignition switch. A faulty ignition switch is when the car starts and immediatly shuts down.

Car shutting off while idling probably has to do with a bad ignitor.

Not true. Bad ignition switch can cause the car to die at any time. Not just after the car starts. This is from experience on wife’s Civic. Car died while driving on 3 seperate occasions.

When the contact points wear down, the high electrical current will arc and short out the contacts causing the car to shut off.

Yes it can!!

(First hand experience)

If OP has no fuel pressure, “when my car turned off the gauge dropped out and whent to crank a few times and the needle stayed at 0” it is a fuel related problem, either the PGM-FI Main Relay, the fuel pump or wiring to them, both the relay and the pump are pron to intermitent problems as is the ign. switch.
