car wanting to overheat

my radiator is full but everytime i turn on my ac the temperature guage moves towards the red? anybody want to take a guess at what it could be? anything would be helpful.

thanks

I recently had the same problem. Rolling down the road with air flowing over the radiator she ran just fine. When stopped the temp gauge would start to rise and the radiator would boil over into the expansion tank. If the radiator cap isn’t holding pressure the engine will boil at a lower temp. New cap fixed it. Simple!

i was gonna check the fan and have the radiator flushed but i will check that also. better to go the cheap way out first.

thanks

I suspected the fan or it’s temp sensor was bad because the car would overheat and boil and the fan would never come on. The reason the fan wouldn’t come on was because the sensor is set to start the fan at a higher temp (water boils at a temp higher than 212 degrees when under pressure). Because the cap was bad and the pressure was low in the system, it would boil before the temp got to the point were the fan would kick in.

did you check if both fans are working properly? my friend had that problem… i never did tho
