My car (93 GS Hatch) was semi-flooded today while I was at work - maybe about an inch above the carpet or so. I turned the car on when I got back to it (I didn’t even know what happened) and water poooured out of my exhaust.
Now it’s sometimes hunting at idle, sometimes bogging at idle, sometimes bogging after 4k, and blowing out white (gas?) smoke sometimes. The check engine light will come on and then when I shut the car off and turn it back on the light is off.
Had a chance to run the carbon off the valves, as they say? Water would have to reach the hood to fill the intake system so all you got is residual water in the exhaust to contemplate. Nothing on the lower half of the engine will suck water in. As a thought, have an auto parts place check your alt and open the pvc/egr tubes, see if the lines are full of yuk. As a last resort, some slurm could have soaked the O2 sensor and it’s provideing bad info to the cpu.
The car appears to be running fine now. I’m thinking that there was enough water in the exhaust to maybe partially clog the cat - leading the car to think that it was maybe running too lean or too rich, which it was trying to adjust for. The water must be mostly gone now and the problem seems to have cleared up.
