car will not turn over?

i tested my starter, fully charged my battery… and still would not turn over… i can push start it… so i got them 2 things taken care of. Then i turned the key all the way and held it gor a sec or 2 and BAM it started smoking… WTF!! what hapen you guys have any clue? could it be my IGNITION SWITCH??

thanks for any help…

I would check the starter lead between the ign. switch and the starter relay for a short.
With that said, problems with the ign. switch on a G2 is not uncommon… http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ignition_switch/index.html
To confirm it is the ign. switch use a jumper wire to supply, [hot wire] power directly to the ign. switches starter lead, black/white, “jump” from the ign. switches power lead, [white or white/black]to the starter lead, [black/white] if the ign. switch is the problem the engine will turn over, if it is a short someplace between the switch and starter relay, [or starter solenoid] the engine will not turn over and jumper wire will get hot, probably be a lot of sparking when you try and make the jump also.:corn:94

Thanks!

ok ill try this thaks… also i have to plugs hanging from underneath my dash. looks like a antenna wire connected along with these 2 plugs…

any ideas will be great thanks…

plugs!

will any IGNITION switch work for the da. for example like a cb or a eg??

It has to be a G2 ign. switch, I see them listed for standard transmission and automatic transmission.

Keep in mind you only need to get the ign. switch itself, you do not need to get the housing… http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-93-Integra-M-T-IGNITION-SWITCH-WIRES-FREE-SHIPPING_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQitemZ370083491728

As for the ant. and two plugs hanging under the dash, my guess is it is left over from an FM modulator, a pix would help:hmm:94

o this is not good…

ok i work at auto zone… i ordered an ig switch… we put it in and all it did was click. you said something about they have them listed for AUTO or MANUEL?? i dont think it matters. i called acura he said it did not matter on that part. could i be wrong???

and where is the starter relay located??? could it be that???

um?

neutral safty switch??? could it be that?? and where is it located??

It may not matter if it is from a standard or automatic, I just see them listed that way on eBay, like the one in the link.

You replaced the switch without doing the test,

To confirm it is the ign. switch use a jumper wire to supply, [hot wire] power directly to the ign. switches starter lead, black/white, “jump” from the ign. switches power lead, [white or white/black]to the starter lead, [black/white]
to see if the switch is the problem???

Well at least you work at AutoZone so you got the new switch cheap and a new ign. switch in a G2 can’t hurt anyway.
By the way, was there any indication of burning on the old switch contacts?

So now back to the problem, obviously the ign. switch was not the problem.

You say you can hear a “click” when you turn the ign. switch to start, where is the click comming from?
Is it comming from under the dash or the engine bay or both?
If your not sure have someone listen under the hood while you turn the switch.

To diagnose where the problem is you can start at one end and work back, to test the starter motor and solenoid, make sure car is NOT IN GEAR, unplug the starter wire from the starter solenoid, using a jumper lead with one end connected to the batt. pos.(+) touch the other end to the terminal on the starter motor solenoid, if engine turns over the starter motor and solenoid are good, so the problem must be before them.

Next in line is the starter relay, [5 speed] gear position switch, [automatic], I assume yours is a 5 speed, sorry I am not exactly sure where the relay is in a G2 but most likely behind the ash tray/lighter or just to the right of that, if the “click” you hear is under the dash it will be the starter relay so you can just fallow the sound, if the click you hear is the starter relay it does not mean the relay is good, only that the ign. switch is good and the clutch interlock switch is good and the coil in the starter relay is good, you will need to see if there is any output from the relay, the easiest way to do that is again use a jumper wire, unplug the relay, [again make sure car is not in gear] and jump the two heavy gauge leads in the plug, probably a black/white, [from ign. switch] and a black/red, [to starter motor solenoid] then turn ign. key to start.

If engine starts, replace the relay.:up:94
