Car wont start, backfires

I’lll start off by saying my knowledge of cars is pretty bad. Also i did use the search function but couldnt find anything quite like my problem. So my 91 integra been sitting for close to a year with a dead battery, mostly in a garage but spent a bit of time out in the elements as well. Put in a new battery the other day and after a couple rotations she started right up. Let it run for a few minutes and noticed the gas light was on. The next day it would not start. I did add more gas. It still turns over fine, but after a few attempts will backfire. It may have sucked up some old nasties sitting at the bottom of my tank? I really don’t know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

check your distributer rotor button. mine was doing the same thing. take the cap off of the distributer and make sure the rotor button set screw is in place(if you can pull the rotor off your missing the screw) odds are that the screw is stuck some where in there.

I would start by replacing the fuel filter, maybe not the problem, but can’t hurt,.

If still no start check for fuel, turn ign. switch to run, [not start] listen for fuel pump priming, should run for a few sec. each time ign. switch is turned on, it will then stop priming and the CEL will go out.

If fuel pump is working, turn ign. switch on and test for power at the injectors, [wire that is the same color on all 4 injectors] and test for power at distributor assembly, [black/yellow lead].

If the above is good, try and start engine, [2-3 attempts] then immediately remove a spark plug and inspect, is it “wet” with gas, does it smell of gas?

If plug has gas on it, ground the plug to engine and have someone crank the engine, [keep face away from open spark plug hole] and check for spark. 94
