Car wont start up once warm

Hey everyone, I recently did an LS-vtec set up in my car and Ive been having some issues. My car starts up great( as long as its been sitting for more than an hour) and it idles/drive great too, but once you shut the vehicle off, lets say to get gas or run into the store to grab a drink and you shut the car off, once you attempt to start it again it will not start back up. it cranks and the fuel pumps prime and everything but the car will not start. I recently replaced the main relay but that did nothing. Another example would be if I was driving and I stalled my car, and I cranked it over immediately it would start back up, but after its been sitting for more than a few minutes it will not.

I have 3 possible ideas that may be causing this,

1st- my engine coolant temperature sensor could be bad telling my ecu my motor is cold when it is actually hot causing it to add more fuel than it needs causing it to flood.
2nd- something is wrong with distributor causing no spark once its too warm
3rd- one of the injectors is leaking causing the car to flood until the excess fuel has evaporated. (I dont think its this one because I have Injector Dynamics Injectors in the car)

Thank you for all your help.

maybe coil is failing i ve heard some issue on that try borrow another distibutor see if it helps

igniter in side the distributor… napa or autozone can check it for you once you take it out

ok I had this exact same issue… went thru replacing coils, ignitor, then even the entire distributor… before you go through all that hassle… replace the o2 sensor… costs 25 bucks give or take and is probably the culprit being as it only happens when the car has been running and isn’t completely cooled off yet.

bad o2 sensor will only send readings when the exhaust manifold reaches something like 300 degrees.

When I was going through all the motions… my car would not dstart for shit… acted like it was severely flooded when warm & take several minutes of craniking and cranking before it would sttart and stay running… I usually had to let it sit anywhere from 20-45 minutes before it would start up ok.

that was the entire process I went through.

yeah had same problem at first after i did b20 swap it didnt even have 02 sensor cuz the car was previous turboed i cut the down pipe off which had 02 sensor i forgot about after got it running lost 160 to mechanic he replaced injectors which didnt fix the problem he said it runs like new drove it around runs fine once its warmed up it start to run like shit like bogging then took it to exhaust shop have em weld the nut on it so i can run 02 sensor cuz it didnt have place for it it runs fine its probably 02 sensor yeah i agree with djzachtyler

awesome I will def try that. Do I just need to bring them the igniter itself or the everything else with it?

Although both have great reasoning and you’ve had experience with this issue yourself, I am not running an 02 sensor on my car and have it cleared out through Hondata, I have an innovate wide band that I keep an eye on my a/f with. Like I said the car runs great when its running, but once the motor is warm it will not start. But once a little bit cooler and does start up (motor still somewhat warm) it idles fine and everything.

Im going to get the ignitor checked out and see what autozone says

also, the ignitor you are referring to is part number 7 in this diagram?

http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/acura/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=INTEGRA&catcgry2=1992&catcgry3=3DR+GS-R&catcgry4=KA5MT&catcgry5=DISTRIBUTOR+(TEC)+(2)&ListAll=All&vinsrch=no&systemcomp=List%20All&vinnoT=&trim=&trans=&view=normal

and for them to test it and find out it is faulty wouldnt it still need to be hot in temperature since thats when it is not working properly?

yes it is part number 7… have them test it at least 10 times to see how it at when its hot and current is going through it.

majority of the time igniters fail when they get hot…

I didnt get the igniter tested but I did swap one from another distributor I had sitting around, I went out for a 10min drive so the car would warm up, shut the car off and let it sit for about 10minutes, and then started it back up and it started well. So ideally its fixed but we will see once Im in a rush, that usually is a good test

awesome report back tonight before u get into bed lol

Good News!! I drove my typical 20minute drive home from work today, parked the car and went back out about 30mins later and it started right up! Seems like switching the igniter out did the trick. Thanks everyone for the help!

awesome glad u got it fixed

good stuff man
